This picture was taken standing in the foyer looking into the bedroom hallway of the house.

What I want to show you is the piece hanging there above the bookcase. I don’t even know what to call it. Maybe wooden scary thing?

I bought it years ago at a local art show – the two figures in it are balanced and when nudged, they rock back and forth. It actually took a wee bit of timing to get them both popping their heads out at the same time for the picture below.

I was supposed to be doing some Christmas shopping when I saw it. I fell in love instantly and broke my piggy bank to buy it. I also called Mr. Boar and brokered a deal where it was a Christmas/birthday combo present.

I like to hear what other people have to say about wooden scary thing – most don’t like it at all (it’s too dark, it’s too creepy, it’s too big) or if they do, they don’t feel as passionately about it as I do – except one. And I’m sure you can guess who it is!

The other day, Vicki and I were talking about gardening and I mentioned that years ago I planted a rhubarb. It is something of an heirloom plant – my grandmother always had rhubarb in her yard and would make pies, ice cream topping sauce and some kind of tart/sweet side dish (on the order of applesauce). It is also perennial so even though I really don’t harvest it, it comes back every spring and I get not only all the happy memories, but also the notion that I am a gardener. Although I threw in that trowel years ago.

So it turns out that Vicki shares a similar rhubarb sentiment and I offered to split some off and send it to her. Well, this is what I saw. I really don’t remember this happening in years past, but with the way my mind is these days, who the hell knows?

Just when a girl sort of gets her blogging mojo back, the powers that be eat her post. sigh.

so here is the shortened version:

knitting:

I am working on socks
the yarn is lovely and the pattern is very nice
I can’t stand knitting them but I won’t rip them out because

I also won’t cast on for another project because there are simply too many unfinished knits around here.

spring is here and that means house projects!
reflooring the deck – ripping up all the old boards and replacing with lovely composite wood decking material.
draining the pool for upcoming sandblasting/repainting

I have been playing around with my camera and you will see that I have very little idea of how to use the video function, but you can definitely get the flavor of how projects go around here. Look for Lu at the end of the second video!

Today is shaping up to be busy busy. First off, Cara & Meli are possibly coming out to visit!! And I know she’s on the breast etc. but I feel like I should go grocery shopping. I mean, Cara has to eat, right?

Secondly, I definitely have to clean. Vacuum at the very least.

Thirdly, Gardener’s Supply has just delivered the asparagus crowns I ordered. I am feeling somewhat garden-y this year and decided to take the plunge and do some double digging ( I suppose I should figure out what the hell that means) It is a glorious day in a week full of rain and I will be working tomorrow. I really need to get those in the ground – today. Which means this morning!

I’ve really got nothing to say. I have knitting to share, but none that I am ready to take a picture of. For some reason, progress pictures are not calling to me and neither of my projects are completely finished. So what does that leave?

A pictureless post? That only works if you have a great story to tell. I’ve got nothing exciting enough to string more than a couple sentences together.

A-ha! Maybe something in the garden will jump start my brain. There is lots going on out there — although there is lots that needs to be done out there too.

The only thing my camera will focus on is these little beauties!

This is what happens when a pug lover takes pictures. Next time I want some flower pictures I better leave the pugs inside.

And when it comes right down to it, you’ve seen one bleeding-heart, you’ve seen them all. Pugs on the other hand are full of nuance! ; )

Under the title Upcoming Excitement, I am setting off on two mini road trips. This evening, I am heading towards Lancaster County. My girlfriend volunteered to take her daughter and daughter’s friend to some all day concert that is going on in the area. She invited me along to go shopping/sightseeing while the girls are rocking out. This particular friend is well known for lots of laughs, truly side splitting fun and all around kooky-ness. We are hitting the road tonight (trying to avoid Staten Island traffic) and will be returning sometime on Friday. Saturday I am back on the road taking D#2 to another accepted students’ event, this time at Bard. This is the final one and then she has to make up her mind. I will be very happy to have this settled.

It’s been a busy week around here! I have been putting in extra hours at the shop, visiting brand new babies and knitting of course! Sadly, I have no pictures of the knitting. I do however have a picture that I find particularly thrilling.

isn’t that just a dishcloth?

While it may seen like a humble dishcloth, this dishcloth stands apart. This dishcloth was knit by one of the gals that made dishcloths cool again! It’s my good dishcloth. Even though I am using it and not framing it, I don’t put it through the same rigors as the others. This one will never clean up the spilled coffee grounds! It’s practically the church clothes of dishcloths!

other things that are thrilling …… I have recently been introduced to the particular pleasure that is In Treatment and the thrill that is Gabriel Byrne. sigh.

does flag etiquette require that I bring in the flag during a snowstorm? Immediately after I took this picture a bit of wind came along and all of that snow dropped off.

Winter on Long Island has been a dull affair this year. There has been no significant snow fall until now. I enjoy a good snow and was griping about our namby-pamby weather.

Naturally I have a busy weekend planned! Cara is coming out for one final visit before motherhood rains down upon her head and my bff of 35 years is going to be here too. Mary has been hearing stories of all my new blogging friends and wants to meet one of you mythical beasts! ; ) Our little party doesn’t start until tomorrow and this storm should be out of here by then. So today I will proceed with the cleaning and baking plan.
