Have you ever said something out loud because you want it to be true? Right before making the pronouncement you get the same feeling that you did during elementary school recess when you were about to jump off of the swings?

That’s exactly what happened to me at yesterday’s guild meeting. I finished the socks and after a suitable time spent admiring my work, the group posed the question: What’s next?

After a moment’s hesitation I said: The vest.

This vest is one of my great UFO’s. Two years ago, I attended the Stitches East event and took a class with June Hiatt. It was a wonderful intense class. The kind that made me fee so empowered, that I could do anything. June gave us the tools and courage to conquer any gauge issues and make any pattern work for us instead of us working for them! I became emboldened.

The vest pattern is from a fall issue of IK and is called the Cider House Rules Vest. It is the same pattern worn by Michael Caine in the movie. (btw, great movie) I decided to custom fit it to my dearest darling. I slaved over his measurements and the calculator. It is made from a wonderful alpaca. I almost finished it.

If memory serves, I have only the button band, pocket insets and bands and some seaming to do. I cannot even remember why I turned away from this project.

I have maken a public statement to finish it — I must now reacquaint myself with the whole thing. This is my solemn vow.

Chelsea, she of Small Hands had a great idea. She is also planning a trip to the Maryland Sheep & Fiber Festival and thought it would be great if we could have real buttons made from our blog buttons. That way we could all maybe spy each other in the throng. Anyone know how we could do this?
