MIT’s Blog Survey Results via Metafilter. These results are fairly interesting. I am new to blogging, having only been at this since November. When I first started this site, I tried to remain anonymous. I was concerned about privacy – my own and that of my friends and family. I would refer to myself as purlingswine and came up with different ‘names’ for everyone else. But then friends who read purlingswine would post comments using my real name and theirs. So I figure, what’s the harm if people know my name is Ann? I have tried to only use a friend’s real name if they themselves have already used it. I think I have been successful in all but one instance. I also always ask permission before posting someone’s picture …. even if they will be headless in the photo!!

As for the other aspects of this new hobby of mine. I have tried to approach it as I would a research paper in college – always using references and citations, giving source info for any facts.

How about the rest of you bloggers? What steps/efforts do you take? Do your friends & family know that you do this?

why I’m angry with Blockbuster

My daughter is having some friends over — she requested that I rent some scary movies. Off to Blockbuster. I have two films for her party – The Shining and The Excorcist (that should get them plenty scared!) and one for me Pieces of April. I get to the cashier, present my card and am informed that I owe $4.88 in a late fee. They feel that I did not return my last rental The Secret Lives of Dentists by noon. I am fairly certain that I did return it by noon, but I put it in their slot/bin thing – perhaps they didn’t empty their bin until 5:00pm! I think that this fee is ridiculous!! Even if they are correct, and I did not get the movie back to them until 5, they are charging me $1/hour??!!! When these movies need to go back, I plan on marching the recent rentals into the f-ing store and having them notarized! I am never renting from them again! bastards.

What to Rent. Here is a site to help me pick out what movies I am in the mood to NOT rent from Blockbuster!

Show and Tell

Here are some pictures of Guild projects.

First off, there is Ricki’s Sod Sweater. A while back, I posted a missing poster on her behalf. She had gotten as far as the last sleeve, was within four rows of finishing and ran out of yarn. After fruitless searching (thanks Julia for your efforts!), someone suggested that she simply make both sleeves two rows shorter. Here you have the result:

She is now the only vision of spring around here!

Next is Peggy’s talent. Her Koigu creation is finished and in use!

look here for a close up!

We all remarked how in pictures details show up that you may have missed with the naked eye – such as the colorings in Peggy’s sweater – or, in some cases, that extra five pounds you thought no one would notice!! ha, ha!

And I continue to chug along on the socks — passed the cuff and getting ready to turn the heel!
