is anyone else finding slower loading with Typepad since their upgrades this weekend?  I have been doing my usual blog reading and was trying to leave comments but became frustrated …..

well Daughter #2 had two of her wisdom teeth extracted this morning – the other two will be done in a few months.  She seems to be doing alright – a little puffy, a little teary but mostly okay.  She is watching SpongeBob at the moment – if Patrick can’t make her smile, nothing can!

I have indeed been knitting – just not taking pictures since the battery for my camera needs a charge.  I have managed to do a few rows on Halycon and am about to turn a heel on the first of my Go With the Flow socks from Interweave’s summer issue.

In getting the link for those socks, I see that Interweave is putting out a special issue called Knitscapes – it is due out at the beginning of October.  Does anyone know if subscribers will receive this issue, or do we have to order it?  What is the story on this magazine?  I heard that Interweave was recently sold – I wonder if this has anything to do with it.  Who has the skinny on it?

Did I mention that I am having a visitor?  She arrives on July 22nd!  We shall be doing a NYC tour on the 23rd.  Cara did such an excellent job of organizing Vicki’s recent visit and she has volunteered to do the same for Chelsea!  The 24th will be spent poolside with icy drinks and knitting until she has to catch her train back home again.  So who is up for some fun??!!  Can you join us in the city?  by the pool?  Both???!!!

it’s getting hot in here

There is so much to say that I don’t know where to begin …..

Daughter #1 left for Florida yesterday.  She went with a girlfriend.  They will be doing Disney and then staying with her friend’s cousins for a few days.  This is her first extended time away and certainly her first vacation on her own.  Of course I realize that she will be going to college in August and will be on her own in no time.  She has been very good about phoning home and they are having a great time.

For the past week, I have been going to yoga.  (perhaps this is helping me stay calm as my poor baby is all alone without me in Florida!)  My friend Ricki has been a yoga devotee for years … and it shows!  She is long and lean and very, very centered.  A few years ago I did Bikram yoga with her and liked it very much.  I stopped because it took so much time.  The classes are an hour and a half and you are so saturated with sweat that you must shower immediately.  So a 9:30 class will mean that you aren’t ready to start the day until 12:30 or so.  Anyway, Ricki has found a new studio and they are running a summer special and I have been loving it again.  It still takes just as much time, somehow it doesn’t seem to matter as much anymore.  Now that I don’t have little children anymore (just big children that still need their mother and maybe are missing her right at this very moment when they are in Florida!) my schedule isn’t tied to getting things done when they are in school.  Anyway, I have been going to yoga everyday and I feel about an inch and a half taller!

In other news, Daughter #2 is having two of her wisdom teeth out tomorrow.  Poor D#2!!  While she is recuperating, she and I will have that cozy knitting time I mentioned earlier.  When D#1 gets home, she will be in the chair having all four taken out.  Do you think either of these two will let me post pictures of their chipmunk cheeks??

Lastly, go check out my cousin’s website – he owns and operates a tugboat service company in Puget Sound.  how cool is that?

like mother, like daugter

Wow!!  You guys are great!!  Check out all the comments for FA in PA!  Who here things she needs a blog of her own?!!  Boy, the stories she could tell — perhaps it’s best if she remains silent ….

The news from these parts – Daughter #2 is knitting!

Willingly.

When Daughter #2 was little she learned how to knit.  She was a good knitter.  But soon other things caught her attention.

Last summer while with me on a trip to AC Moore, D#2 wanted to buy some yarn to make her friend a scarf.  I was very excited and began imagining cozy, mother/daughter afternoons.

Hope was premature.  That yarn soon made its way into the stash pile.

Well, my long wait is over.  Just yesterday, Daughter #2 decided to take the plunge.  It was the seventh day of her summer vacation and she was bored already.

She is about three inches into a garter stitch scarf!  I will try to get a picture up soon.  Do you think it is too soon to start imagining those cozy afternoons again? To take her shopping for knitting bags? To discuss future projects?

Shall I play it cool, or do I swamp her with my enthusiasm?

Is cool even a possibility?
