We are home from our first college visit!! What a long day! We took tootsie to see Skidmore College in Saratoga, NY. It is about a 3 ½ hour car trip – which meant a 4:15 am wake up! ugh! The college is lovely. The campus is nicely thought out and the buildings are all kept up and wonderfully renovated. Even the dorm rooms were great! (like a palace compared to my dorm rooms!) They had a student panel for a Q & A session and I was impressed by how young, yet self-possessed they all are. Of course, Skidmore has a hefty price tag – good grief!!
The best thing about a 3 ½ car ride is that means 7 hourse of knitting. I managed to knit away without getting car sick. I can’t figure out why sometimes I can and others, nothing doing. So loads of knitting time! Of course, I have to subtract about an hour’s worth of dozing. I took along The Vest – both armhole bands are done (not yet attached, but done) and the button band is well underway. This band goes up, around the neck and back down the other side, it is knit across 13 stitches. That may appear to be a very wide button band – however, it is turned over like a hem would be. This is also the case for the armhole bands. It means loads of seaming – first to attach it and then to tack down the ‘hem’. The shorter rows are great, but this constant turning of the work is getting to me — I know it is possible to knit backward (I have tried it myself), but has anyone perfected the technique??
