lady of mystery

Lest you think I have done nothing these past few days, I will tell what I am able.

I have been working on a Top Secret Project. This TSP is on the down-low because it is a present and the recipient reads my site.

The TSP has given me a fair amount of trouble. To add to the mystery I will tell you that not having my laptop was preventing progress!! After I assembled all the components for TSP – the second step was resisting my efforts. Undeterred, I attempted to force the issue with brute strength. I forced this issue for a full 45 minutes before giving up. What should have been a straight forward process turned into an aerobic exercise.

Wiping the sweat from my brow, I had another brainstorm. The final step of the brainstorm just took place this morning and by the looks of things, all went well. As a matter of fact, I like this result better than the result that should have happened from the first attempt.

As soon as I give this gift to its intended, I will post pictures. But that will have to wait until it dries. (?!?)

In other news, I have my laptop back!! Thank you Jaysus! My laptop is a Gateway — the process for getting this fixed has been smooth and easy. The service department at Gateway has earned my highest praise. After we called their service department, they sent a box the next day, complete with padding and instructions for how to send the laptop to them. We package it up, made a phone call and it was picked up the following day! I had my beloved back in my arms in a week!

I wish I could say the same about Cablevision. We have our internet through cable and also our telephone. As you know, I have been experiencing technical difficulties since Sunday. I have spent over an hour on my cell phone trying to get this resolved. Boar has also logged some serious telephone time with them. I have spoken to no less than 5 representatives. Each one has a different tale to tell. When they told me yesterday that it could take up to 10 days (not including weekends) to fix this, I hit the roof.

I have learned that losing my temper gets me nowhere. I simply asked to speak to the supervisor. I spoke to three supervisors. They told me that I would not be charged for this time when I had no service. I told them I would expect them to pay my cell phone bill for this time. They sent someone yesterday.

He has put a temporary fix on the problem. From what I can tell, the true problem is in the wiring on the street. The signal is weak. He installed some kind of amplifier in the house to boost the signal until the street issue is corrected.

Peace has been restored to my kingdom. at least for now

I am going to a Knitting Guild Meeting today! I have been invited there by Katyknits! I get to meet Kathleen and other LI knitters! I am taking the workshop on the Magic Loop method for sock knitting.

  1. Yea, Ann! We are meeting today. :)

Interestingly, my mother has been having problems with her newly installed cable modem and telephone line. I do like the cell phone threat! Good job.

  2. you should have a blog contest to identify the TSP! What a great mysterious description. :)

Cable woes can really bring the roof down at my place. You are holding up remarkably well (at least in text).

    only 8 days left!!

  3. oh I cannot STAND it….pictures, when?
We have our *own* Cable technician who responds to the calls from the “CRAZY YANKEE LADY, with the weirdo kids”….sigh. She’s wonderful. She has an autistic boy who is her neighbor, so she UNDERSTANDS that it really IS life or death if the cable and the dsl go down together…
We adore her. We bake her chocolate chip cookies. Our cable signal is fabulous now, in ways it never ever was when the regular guy technicians came and called me “hunnychile”, and wanted to SHOW me all the adult channels I could get. Uh, no thanks, I wanna BLOCK those, if you don’t mind.
I can’t wait to hear all about the LI knitters….gosh I wish I’d had blogging when I lived there ages ago…we’d all have been friends, like, furrever, ya know?
