As I cruised through my blogroll this week I was first amazed, thrilled and then dismayed to see how many knit bloggers will be in Rhinebeck this weekend.

The amazed and thrilled part is pretty self explanatory — but why dismayed?

Because so many of them were frantically working on masterpieces to wear at the festival!! They will be recognized by these handknits …. monogramed totebags will not suffice. How can I ever hope to compete with this? How will I ever fit in?? I am suddenly transported back to junior high when clothing meant so much, was such a reflection of status. Not that any of that has changed, I just thought it had stopped mattering to me.

What is a blogger to do? Wear her Roadkill Poncho?? Not wear any hand knitting? Run the risk of ending up on Curmudgeon’s Gallery of Ghastlies? no thank you!

I certainly don’t want to be left out, yet I also don’t want to be singled out!

I present to you my entry into the I’m-going-to-Rhinebeck-and-need-something-handknit-quick ring….

Knit with Lion Brand’s something-or-other-self-striping-sock-yarn. Knit in record time. Knit with the hope of finding some really good sock yarn at the fair. Knit with the realization that Lion Brand is not all that bad and that their grafting directions were the best I have ever encountered.

So, I will be in Rhinebeck — look for me – I’m the one in the socks!

  1. Damn I haven’t made anything to wear. Well at least we’ve met! I know I will recognize the Harlot, her picture is on her blog quite a bit. Also Alison from the Blue Blog but that’s it.

  2. I’ll be the one with the purchases tied to her because her arms are numb. Sorry, nothing knit this year. I’m even leaving the booga bag at home and opting to put the important items from it in the back pack in stead.
