I was telling Cara that I started a blog post yesterday and suddenly got all tongue tied with nothing to say. She, in her infinite wisdom and with no trace of sarcasm suggested I talk about knitting.  It’s nice having brilliant friends!

55 Christmas Balls

I have been doing lots of knitting for the shop but also managed to churn out a few of these adorable ornaments in time for Christmas. They are from the book 55 Christmas Balls to Knit and I can’t recommend it highly enough. As a matter of fact, the book has an accompanying video series – even though I don’t understand a word, it makes me laugh every time!

I tinkered with the pattern a bit, experimented with various increasing methods none of which seem to make a big difference. The one change I made that I am sticking with is casting on using Judy Becker’s Magic Cast On. The pig ornament was the first one I knit, so if you look closely at the bottom you can see that I hadn’t come up with that idea yet.

  1. Some day…when I’m done with the Big Red Thing I would like to finish my Catkin, Jane Austen shawl and make a few balls for the tree next year. I love your piggy one!

  2. I saw this book somewhere else…and my MIL,SIL and I are determined to make some of these for next year. We’re going to have a long distance KAL since they are in WI. I’ll have to come into the shop to examine your balls. Oh my. :o
