I finally finished Gizmo’s sweater.  I wandered away from my knitting last week – and what should have been done last weekend, just got finished this weekend!  Oh well, whatareyagonnado?  it’s a hobby fer chrissakes!  It’ll get done when it’s done — here at purlingswine that is the new knitting esprit de corps!  The sweater is from a Paton’s pattern and the yarn is leftover alpaca from Boar’s Vest.

This weekend has also netted one new knitter and one up-and-coming knitter!  Witness my sister-in-law Joann and my niece Jessica.  Joann’s friend was committing a heinous crime and getting rid of another relative’s knitting supplies.  Joann snagged said supplies thinking she would give them to me.  We had dinner together last night and she brought a bag full of needles etc.  Rather than take the booty, I gave Joann a lesson and she just took off!  YAY!  She is working on a two-stranded garter stitch scarf.  She is loving it and kept saying whenever her kids would call her — ‘let me finish one more row’….  Joann went home with her bag full of supplies and a project underway!  And little Jessica worked diligently on a chain stitch strand – she had every intention of taking her work to school tomorrow and teaching her friends during recess! My nephew Johnny could also be bitten by the bug — he was working that wonder-winder like a champ!

it’s like throwing pebbles in a pond!

Ode to Netflix

Supersizefinal_smallHave I waxed poetic about Netflix lately?

To tell you the God’s honest truth, I haven’t waxed much of anything lately.

Well, their prices have gone down!  And the service is still terrific!

John and I watched the movie Supersize Me – what an eye opener that was.  It is an entertaining look at the fast food industry and its effects on America’s health.  Sounds kind of grim, but it truly is entertaining and well worth watching. We all know the message – fast food is no good for us – but somehow the delivery in this movie strikes a chord.

John and I have very different taste in movies — his favorite genres invariably involve a character or two with something growing out of their foreheads and and/or large-busted women from other galaxies.  He also loves anything with high-tech mayhem.

As you can guess, he was not all that keen on watching Supersize Me.  But what could he do?  Our favorite Boar has a bad back and was laid out on the floor – hardly in a position to wrestle for dominion over the remote control.

Anyway, he enjoyed the movie – he really enjoyed the movie! No fight sequences, no explosions, no space ships and the three females were:

  1. a gastroenterologist
  2. a nutritionist
  3. a vegan chef

One word of caution:  if you do take my advice and see this movie then either eat dinner ahead of time, or know what you are planning to have.

And make it a healthy choice! you may never eat fast food again

Let’s hear a big round of applause for Margene!  And for all of those who helped Margene, who then helped me!!

If you scroll down a bit, you will see my new Google search feature – and I owe it all to Zeneedle!  How fancy is that?!

For all of you who hang on my every word; your sleepless nights are over!  Instead of endlessly searching through the archives of purlingswine, you can simply do a Google Search!

Isn’t that handy?

don’t thank me …. thank Margene!
