Onslow could do better

Once again a post with no knitting content. In fact, I am feeling at loose ends and anticipate a bit of rambling …..

The election is less than a week away – I came across this interesting link at Pam’s site. Truth be told, Pam had linked to this herself — so in blog etiquette, to whom do I link? Is one supposed to have an endless succession of links in order to give credit where it’s due? We need a blogging Miss Manners. hmmmm, there’s an idea!

Shall I regale you with my Onslow experience yesterday?

If you have the idea that I am a with it, together, unflappable type of person and don’t want to be disabused of that notion then look away, go somewhere else, run along.

As I have said before, Onslow is a six-speed manual and it has been a learning experience for me. I have been doing wonderfully well, surprisingly well in fact. I have been concerned about a particular hill and the traffic light at the top of it – this hill is on one of my regular routes around town.

I began practicing on hills. Anytime it was possible, I would stop Onslow on a hill and then throw him into first and proceed. It was working! I realized that Daughter #2’s flute teacher lives on a huge hill. The flute teacher’s hill made that other hill look like a complete nothing. Why hadn’t I thought of this before? During her lesson on Monday, I stayed in the car and just drove on that hill. Up and down, starting and stopping. I could not believe how great I did! I figured I had gotten the knack and that since this hill was by far the steepest thing around, all my worries were over.

knitting is a good way to pass the time

Patrolling at night in a well-known make-out spot, just before midnight, a Ranger sees a couple in a car, with the interior light brightly glowing. The Ranger carefully approaches the car to get a closer look, where he sees a young man behind the wheel, reading a computer magazine. He immediately notices a young woman in the rear seat, knitting. Puzzled by this surprising situation, the Ranger walks to the car and gently raps on the driver’s window.

The young man lowers his window … “Uh, yes, officer?”

“What are you doing?”

“Well, isn’t it obvious? I’m reading a magazine, sir.”

Pointing towards the young woman in the back seat the Ranger says: “And her-what is she doing?”

The young man shrugs: “Sir, I believe she’s knitting a pullover sweater.”

If this blog is to be a true reflection of my day, I offer this link. I engage in this activity every god-damned day! Perhaps I should have started a laundry blog! sudsingswine, rub-a-dub swine, ring around the swine, swine on the spin cycle. Oohh, I like that last one!

Not much news from these parts — I am continuing to work on the Sweater for Mo Part II. I have bought into the pattern measurements and am knitting him the medium sized — even though I am morally opposed and outraged at thinking that this little Shih-tzu is a medium. Still his 13 pound body needs a new sweater!

This morning I also got around to re-painting my radiator cover. Do you remember my pedicure debacle? I have been very busy ignoring that situation, but today push came to shove. I went out on a limb and painted it a soft black — everyone I spoke with about painting it black was opposed to that idea.

I fear, they may have been right.

I will live with it awhile and see if it grows on me.
