Had a knitting get together last night at my friend Peggy’s. She is working on a Elsbeth Lavold tank top – called Gyrd (or something along those lines). Beautiful design & yarn. The directions were quite murky.
My educated guess is that the pattern was translated by a non-knitter. Certain pattern verbs – specifically work = knit? work even? – may not translate verbatim. Collectively, we have 70 years of knitting experience and it took us a good 45 minutes to figure out what the directions meant.
So I had a tirade. The mistakes in knitting patterns are completely unacceptable. Who is at fault here – the designers? editors? publishers? Before I get my blood in a boil again, kindly read Yarn Harlot’s site. She has stated the whole point beautifully.
