Dear BlockBuster,

I am so over you.

You with your late fees, your ever changing policies, your constant need to be right – all your gall and audacity can’t hurt me anymore. You probably never even knew how much I would agonize and obsess to meet your needs. gotta remember to return the videos gotta remember to return the videos gotta remember to return the videos I had lost myself in trying to please you. What about what I wanted, what I needed?

I ask myself why did I stay with you as long as I did?? So many years of my life I’ll never get back.

At first, you were a novelty. When you blew into town, everyone sat up and took notice. There had never been anyone like you before – the possibilites were endless. I know I wasn’t the only one who felt that way – you always drew a crowd, the attraction was obvious. You seemed like – and were – the only game in town. When you gave me that card, I was flattered – you wanted me!

Somehwere along the line, everything changed. It was all about you. What hoops I had to jump throught to keep you happy. You never cared about what was going on in my life – all you ever cared about was getting your friggin’ videos back.

Well, that last hoop was just too high.

When we broke up, I thought I would never look at another dvd again.

But that’s all changed.

There’s someone new. Someone who cares about me, who wants me to be happy. They are so easy to be with – it’s a refreshing change. They make me feel like a princess. And you know what Blockbuster? They make me want to try new things!

I have moved on.

You better sit up and take notice, Blockbuster. Soon everyone will feel the way I do. As far as I’m concerned, you can take your card and shove it!

What’s his name?? It’s Netflix, if you must know. We are in love.

Daughter #1 and I watched The Station Agent last night. What a great movie!

  1. I used to do netflix, but found I wasn’t really watching videos very often. Also, the occasionally forgot to book my returns in and I had to email them about it.

Don’t hate me, I use blockbuster again, for the 2 DVDs or so that I rent per month.

I only wished I was back on Netflix when I was home recovering from surgery. It was all I could do to get the menfolk to process a simple, detailed grocery list without me along. I didn’t want to add video shopping to their chores, because they would come home with crap like Terminator, Star Wars, and such.

On my last trip I got Station Agent and Something’s Gotta Give. Lief rolled his eyes at both choices, but he really liked Station Agent. It was a charming little movie with very endearing characters.

  2. I gave up my Blockbuster DVD Freedom Pass for a Netflix membership about 6 months ago and I have never looked back. Of course it’s fun at the moment because Blockbuster e-mails me 99 cent coupons and various other offers to get me back so I get to have my cake and eat it too!
