They’re not knitting pictures exactly ….. I have been hard at work on Banff, and she is almost done. Halfway through the last sleeve – yipee! Then I will block it, seam it and knit up the neck – and perhaps with a bit of luck, I will love the way it looks on me and wear it all the time.

Anyway, since I am nearing the end of Banff, my thoughts have turned to my next project. I’m coming up empty!! This is where you come in ….. see this stuff in the pictures? Can anyone tell me why I bought it? Does anyone have an idea for what to make from it? It is Patons Divine, the pictures isn’t showing the colors quite right ….. and the link isn’t doing that much better. As you can see, I have 3 balls of it. I know I can always do the hat/scarf thing, but am mulling over the Frontier Hat. Here are my concerns:

1. the yarn for the Frontier Hat is more furry and this Divine stuff is more fuzzy, therefore the spirit of the raccoon cap will be violated.
2. I don’t have a firm commitment from any young boys that they would actually wear this thing ….. actually, I haven’t even asked ….. if you have a boy and know me personally, would your son wear this?? and what about the fuzz vs. fur factor???

What to do with this stuff ….. this is your homework assignment, you have until Friday to hand in your answers.

  1. I’ll be lurking watching the responses, I have three skeins of this too, in a pink raspberry orange shade, was maybe going to do a vest of some sort for my 5 YO niece for Christmas? Anyone know of a kids vest pattern that would work with this?

  2. While I do think this has a roadkill look to it (sorry if that is mean–we are friends now, so I can be)…I think it would look cute as that Frontier Hat.I am not sure what kid would wear it…could you pass it off to the friend who likes to take credit for your hats? ;)

  3. My nephews might wear it, as long as you put X’ed eyes and a lolling tongue on it somewhere so it really looked like roadkill. Bonus points for any stitch pattern that might resemble tire tread. Otherwise, the fuzzy would be too… “froofy.”

I would say, save it up and find some coordinating yarns (like a bulky, a thick and thin, and maybe a ribbon) and make a long luxurious wrap. Knit it lengthwise, like 60+ inches long with long fringe and use it as a rectangular shawl.

(I am doing this very thing with some Colinette Mohair, Crystal Palace Musique, and some leftover novelties from my poncho… it is a good way for me to use dreamy yarns without breaking the bank, and without being suffocated under scarves.)
