banff!

P9080001I have finished the sweater! I was motivated to get it done when we had some cooler temps last week. Now it is all hot and humid again, so wearing it will have to wait. Here are some thoughts on Banff:

1. I haven’t knit myself a sweater in 20 years – it felt good to make this.
2. this yarn – by sirdar – is very soft
3. the pattern is very well written
4. combining #2 and #3 – this sweater is very snuggly
4. although it is just miles of stockinette stitch, I am very pleased with the engineering of this sweater – the fabulous decreases making a nice, crisp raglan shaping.
5. I took my time, and if I do say so myself, did a fabulous job with seaming and picking up the neck

I am changing my wicked, knitting ways. It used to be that I would rush, headlong and swatchless into knitting projects. In a feeble attempt to get things done quickly, I would take shortcuts that usually didn’t work out all that well. I have been trying to become more mindful – making a swatch, learning a new decrease/increase technique, and reading through the patterns ahead of time. To remind myself that knitting is a verb – it is all about the process. If I remember this, then the product will take care of itself ….

  1. Love the colors! you look great. I am diligently slogging to finish a ho hum cardigan in a low end yarn that I hate more and more as time goes on, but I’ve invested to much time in it now to give up. My next big project will have to be with a yarn I love, and in a pattern I can relate to a little better.

  2. What a beatiful sweater, and what great words of wisdom! That purple looks so cozy!

I, too, am a big ole rusher and have suffered because of it. My next sweater will be all black so I don’t feel compelled to blog about it (and subsequently rush through it).

  3. Wow! That looks great! Banff is such a great sweater…my favorite part(s) is/are the sleeves – the way they flare and just cover the top of your hands. Job well done…now what’s on the agenda next?

  4. I just finished Banff myself. I made mine with Noro Shinano. I was so afraid to try it on after all of the work, but it fit!!!

I really like your color. It was a great pattern wasn’t it? This is the first sweater I’ve ever knitted for myself.

I’ve started on a vest pattern from knitty, but also want to get started on some booties & hat I saw on Knitty Gritty (DIY).
