Here is a very bad photo of a wonderful cowl thingie that I knit. I bought a kit for this at Rhinebeck – it is knit with Lamb’s Pride and has an angora trim. With the temperatures we have been having, the writing is on the wall and I anticipate that it will be well used this winter.
The cowl is knit with a rib stitch in the round. I did notice that my stitches were a bit skewed — the left leg of the stitch seemed more pronounced than the right. I have certainly knit in the round before and have never had this happen. At first, I kept ripping and trying to fix this problem… but then decided to just ‘let it go’ and knit the damn thing. Another blogger (wish I could remember who) had a great line — The gods are jealous of perfection and will seek revenge on those who achieve it. This became my mantra.
Lamb’s pride is a mix of wool and mohair and seems to have very little spin – I wonder if my crooked stitch definition had something to do with that. Be that as it may, I am in love with Lamb’s Pride – it is scrumptious – so soft and luxurious! I am on the lookout for some patterns — any suggestions?
The Coronet hat in Knitty was made in Lamb’s Pride, and it came out looking wonderful and warm. I have just enough yarn left over to make a catnip mouse for my cat!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the “cowl thingie” —- are you taking orders???
You look so stinkin’ cute in that cowl. I love Lamb’s Pride too and find the stitch definition to be similar to what you describe. It’s not you! :)
I love your wonderful cowl thingie. I have yet to knit with Lamb’s Pride, but I hear nothing but good things!
I wouldn’t wish the ebay experience upon anyone – Naw, once you have a bid it’s not so bad :D Spur up some courage girl and start a bidding war! You can do it!
I have seen the skewed stitch effect in lightly -spun yarn. It has happened to me every time I have knit with Lion Brand Microspun – a loosely-spun yarn. I have read that it is the loosness of the stitches that emphasises one leg over the other. In fact, I think one of the swatches in the old Vogue Knitting book looks like this… possibly the cover swatch.
Brilliant cowl! That looks oh-so-warm-and-cozy…must make one…
