bday yarn

what do we have here?  It’s birthday yarn!!  When My Boar asked what I would like for my birthday (more along the lines of Saturday evening during the blizzard saying, ‘Crap! It’s your birthday on Monday – I haven’t gotten you anything’), I told him not to worry about it, I was planning on ordering a bunch of yarn.

The first picture on the left is yarn for the Fry Up Knitalong.  This is from Knit Picks and is their Wool of the Andes.  Have you seen the great prices on this stuff?  Only $1.79 for 50 grams and if you order over $30, shipping is free ….. how can they do this?

The middle shot is also yarn from Knit Picks.  On the left is Andean Silk Twist in the Pumpkin Patch colorway.  This is destined to become another Clapotis – although I have checked gauge and yardage, I am concerned that I didn’t order enough.    The striped yarn in the middle is Simple Stripes – a self striping superwash for socks.  I ordered the Storm and Snapdragon colors.  My sock yarn collection is growing and I better start knitting some of it soon!  On the right side is more Wool of the Andes in the color Fern.  I have failed to mention that I received the book Scarf Style by Pam Allen for Christmas – the fern is for the pattern Backyard Leaves by Annie Modesitt.

The picture on the right …. well that is yarn on the cone that I ordered from Webs it is Valley Yarns Brora Soft Spun.  I screwed up and thought I was ordering 1 cone (which in this case are 2.2 lbs).  What I actually ordered is 1 pound.  I bought this without knowing what I would do with it, but felt certain that whatever it was, 2.2 pounds would be plenty.  Now I have 1 pound.  Will that be enough?  How would I even know considering I don’t have any plans for this wool yet?  Which leads to the question, do I order more

rephrase: do I order more yarn since I don’t know how much I’ll need for the project I don’t know I’m making?

is anyone else out there this ridiculous?

  1. Tomatoes are red
    They grow on the vine
    Great birthday wishes
    To our own Purling Swine

It’s very simple. Do you want more of the yarn? Order it. Logical reasoning be damned.

  2. Hippo Birdy to ewe!!
You are very sweet and thoughtful to take care of our dear friend Katy is such a way. She so deserves it.
Have a very happy b-day…oh, it looks like you already did!

  3. First, I cracked up at the fry-along yarn getting all crispy in the pan. Then, wondering whether you have enough yarn for the project that you don’t know you’re making — sounds like you’re possessed or have multiple personalities or are knitting with blinders on or just knitting, knitting, knitting and “we’ll see what it turns out to be”! Thanks for the smile! Looks like yummy, yummy birthday yarn.

  4. I love the picture of your fry-up yarn! You are too creative! Happy Birthday by the way…and isn’t yarn the perfect gift?! So is your fry up yarn as soft as it looks? It looks very “yummy”!!
