I’m innocent!

Onslow has a boo-boo.  Thank goodness he is the only one!

I was making a left hand turn at a light on a very busy road and this woman came (from out of nowhere!) and clipped us on the rear passenger side.

I swear to God, she was driving like a bat out of hell.

Even Daughter #2 said she didn’t see her until she was on top of us.

Thankfully all are okay and all have insurance.

Onslow is smushed.

::sniff::

In other bad news:  I do not have enough suede to finish my Clapotis.  Thanks to some very helpful emails from Mindy, I have determined that this is also not my fault! (see above).  It seems that everyone is running short.  The pattern says it used 3 skeins at 205 yds/skein.  Mindy reports that Clapotis is taking 700-750 yds.  Not only do I not have enough suede to finish Clapotis #1, the Andean Silk Twist that I ordered from Knit Picks for Clapotis #2 will not be enough.  I ordered 6 skeins. Further complicating this situation is that Knit Picks put the wrong yardage on their website and in their catalog.  The yarn actually has 96 yards/skein but was stated to have 110 yds/skein.  I read on a Live Journal site that Knit Picks customer service was fabulous and sent two skeins for free when she encountered the same problem.

So here we have an innocent knitter who is using a pattern understating the amounts required, not ordering enough yarn, combined with a yarn company overstating the amount of yarn per skein!

  • pattern requirement: 615 yds.
  • actual pattern requirement: 700-750 yds.
  • ordered amount: 660 yds.
  • actual amount: 576 yds.

Knit Picks has shorted me one skein’s worth of yardage.  In another case, they sent someone two skeins to make good on their mistake.  But I need three skeins to make this project.  Technically I need three, but I really want four — don’t want to be caught short again!

are you following all of this?  do you see how none of this is my fault?

How will this turn out?  I would be happy just to not have to pay shipping.

  1. Poor Onslow! I hope he feels better soon.

There is a Mini Cooper that parks every day in the parking lot at the train station. Every single morning when I get out of my car and walk past it, I say “Hello, Onslow.”

This Mini Cooper probably wonders what the heck my problem is.

  2. Glad you and daughter are ok, but sometimes it takes a day or two for soft tissue aches to surface, so do take care!

    Poor Onslow, is he fixable?

How did you determine actual yardage? I’m tempted to buy one of those yarn meters because I am too uncoordinated to count as I wind onto a niddy. It’s all I can do to keep the yarn going in the right direction.

  3. Oh, poor Onslow! Shame on that nasty woman for driving so fast and hurting him!

Thanks for the Clapotis reality check. I’m going to HAVE to pick up one more skein of the Fable I got for that project. Sigh–another trip to the LYS…

  4. Wow, that is a difference in how much the amount of yarn needed. Katy told me it was more than the pattern listed. I have enough but dammit I wanted to make a hat too!

I am sorry about poor Onslow, but at least you and your daughter are ok. We had a similiar incident Sunday when we were out but my husban managed to stop just before we hit the maniac coming out of no where. Thankfully no one was too close behind us.

  5. I hate wrecks! They are awful…especially when they are not your fault! Take care..and if your back starts hurting go to the doctor!

With all your talk about clapotis, I am getting intriqued – and possibly considering taking a plunge. I hate that you are having to figure yardage issues out the HARD WAY! But, you are making it easier for people like me…THANKS :).

  6. Yikes, glad to hear everyone’s OK!

I read on the Knitlist today that somebody needed 8 skeins of Silk Garden for their Clapotis, which is, what, over 800 yds? I thought I was definitely in the clear with Shine, but it took me about 1 skein to do the setup and increase rows, and one more skein took me three dropped-stitch-columns into the straight rows. Still with me? According to my stitch markers, I have 17 more dropped-stitch-columns, which means 5.5 more skeins-worth. Add one more skein for the decrease and finishing rows, and I’m officially SOL at having enough to finish this mother.

I’m going to go lie down now.

  7. my poor annie! thank god you and your ‘baby’ are ok!! Did your air bag deploy? are either of you sore? Did you curse her out? little onslow will be good as new. Hang in there! xoox
