I am happy to report that Knit Picks not only has great yarn at fabulous prices, but they also have one of the very best customer service departments!  I called them first thing this morning and explained my crazy situation to the nice woman who answered the phone.  She was aware of the problem with the catalog and internet site, but wanted to check with her supervisor regarding what the company was going to do about it.  Could she call me back?

She called back within 10 minutes or so saying that they would be sending me all four skeins right away!  Remember – the error in yardage would only have covered one skein’s worth of yarn, the rest of my problem was due to a pattern error and not Knit Picks.  They are being especially wonderful and I am an especially satisfied customer!

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments about my game of bumper cars yesterday.  I really and truly am fine – but I will be sure to keep an eye on things and not push myself if anything does start to ache.

Onslow is another story.  ::sniff::

He is at the body shop as we speak.  I spoke with the insurance adjuster today and they will be going there tomorrow for a look at Onlsow.

Did you ever see the Seinfeld episode where Elaine is dating that guy all for his good looks and then he is in some kind of climbing accident and she is trying to be all noble, saying that she will still love him despite his terrible disfigurement?

well, I hope that isn’t going to be me.

I love Onslow.  He has a great personality.  He is a swell guy.  But I am in it for his looks (and of course what he packs under his hood!).  ; )

  1. Glad you are ok and Knit Picks came to your rescue, too. I bought 1000 yds for my second Clap so I’d be sure to have enough. I ran WAY short with 600 on my first.
Poor Onslow…it doesn’t sound like too bad of a crash so perhaps he’ll be as good as new.

  2. How smushed is smushed? Poor little guy. I’m sure glad you’re all okay — take it easy!

Nothin’ like good customer service, huh? When they go above and beyond, it’s like you’ve won a prize.

  3. I am very happy to know that you are fine. It sounds like your attachment to Onslow might be… superficial so I’ll reserve judgement at this point. I am very sorry to find out that the yarn that was gifted to me by the wonderful Julia might not be enough for the clap. But I’m glad to find this out before I frog the hat I’ve already knit out of part of said yarn. Burn a candle, I’m sure Onslow will be fine.

  4. I have every faith that you will continue to love Onslow. Even if he comes out of surgery with a scar, won’t that just make him more sexy?

    I’m just saying.

  5. I think you are right Wendy — nothing like a little scar to add some rakish appeal. It will make him like those ‘bad’ boys in high school that we just couldn’t get enough of! – he will be an automotive Johnny Depp! — God, now I can hardly wait!

ps. which only proves Michelle is right on the money – I am superficial!!

  6. Now Onslow can be the Pirate of Deer Park! He’ll have to fly the Jolly Roger from his antenna. [Johnny Depp/Pirates of the Caribbean]… it’s early, I haven’t finished my coffee.

Knit Picks is sounding better and better… can’t wait to get my catalog! I’ve asked for it 3 times now. I’m looking for a softer alternative to feed my fair isle obsession. This Jameison is scratchy stuff.

  7. i think you guys are going winter stir crazy! comparing this cute car to hottie Johnny depp?? we need to get some sunshine girls!

  8. I gather from Wendy’s blog that Onslow is a Mini Cooper. Agatha (2004 BRG w/white top) and Limey (1973, also BRG w/white top) send their best wishes for a speedy recovery. We are quite attached to both our Coopers. Glad to hear of your good experience with Knit Picks. I just got their new catalog and am anxious to try some of their new yarns. Also anxious to try Clapotis.

  9. I am sorry to hear about your Onslow. I totalled my 2002 Mini Cooper the night about 2 months ago. I am still getting over it. (well, not that much, cause we got a 2004 MCS to replace it,) Hope he will be ok!

  10. Awww… DeeBee, our 2003 chili-red MCS, sends his best thoughts to your Onslow… what do cars send each other when they’re sick? A nice gallon of igh-octane premium fuel? A bouquet of exhaust pipes?

Anyway, love your blog, and love those cute little Coopers. I smell a webring brewing… Knitters who love Minis…

  11. I’m so sorry to hear about your smooshed MiniCooper. We (DH and I) have one and love it. But in hopes that it will make you feel a bit better about Onslow, let me relate my PATHETIC MiniCooper disaster.
I was on my way to the front desk to check out from a knitting weekend at Camp Stitches East. I had a lovely 3-day workshop on Aran knitting and design with Beth Reinsel-Brown. So, I drive my Mini over to the main building and pull up behind another car andas usual, assume my foot is on the brake and, lo and behold and hot damn, my foot was on the accelerator and I plow right into the parked car ahead of me. This was by far the DUMBEST thing I ever did in front of a group of people. Of course, everyone ran over and asked what happened; if prehaps I had trouble with the manual gears. Sorry, it’s wimpy automatic. Luckily, the other car was not hurt at all. But the Mini was smooshed in pretty good – running lights all broken, slightly crumpled front hood – it came to the tune of $4,000 – I felt too stupid to report it to my insurance. The only stupid explanation I can come up with for the accident is that I had spent the weekend and particularly the day before straining over Aran charts knitting various design swatches and I think all that reading left and then reading right and then left and so forth somehow got me mixed up on my right and left in my early morning fog. Geez, it was stupid. At least you had an honest to goodness accident that you can openly acknowledge. Upon hearing about my accident, one of my friends’ teen-aged daughters asked her, “Does confusing the brake and accelerator happen very often?” My dear friend answered, “Only to people over seventy.” (I’m 48!)So good luck with Onslow; I’m sure he’ll be good as new soon.

  12. You didn’t happen to ask them about mill conditions when you called Knitpicks customer service, did you? I’m still trying to figure out how they can give such low prices on such lovely yarn, but I’m not sure I want to know.

  13. Listen here Snowball — I have been reading your site, hearing you wonder about the mills and the prices …… if you ever find out that they have kittens and infants milling that yarn, I want you to keep it to yourself!!

    just kidding

    sort of.

okay, fine! I’ll have a conscience. I did not ask about the mill conditions, that is true — but I did tool around their website and they posted pictures of smiling mill workers.

yes, I am that naive and gullible.

  14. There must be something in the air. Or maybe our MINIs have giant magnets in them? My girl (2004 MCS, yellow/white) got her windows smashed out a couple of months ago! But she’s feeling much better now and sends Onslow her best wishes for a speedy recovery!
