woof!

I think Mr. Boar should run this on a continuous loop until the 25th.

[thanks Tom!]

Hugs & Kisses

At last I can show you my recent knitting!   This is a cabled wrap/scarf/cowl — it all depends on how you wear it. I am considering attaching a bit of i-cord and a button and turning it into a cowl.

The pattern is Hugs n Kisses Cabled Wrap by Shiri Mor. She is a knit/crochet wear designer who also does some teaching and custom pattern writing for the shop where I work. I test knit this pattern for her and I can tell you that the chart and directions are very thoughtfully done. Shiri is also active on Ravelry, you can find her here and offers full pattern support if you have any questions.

The yarn is Blue Sky Alpaca Suri Merino and it may just be my new favorite yarn. I love it – it has the whole luxury thing down pat, so soft and pretty, but it is also extremely strong, and not delicate at all.

Another little something I have recently whipped up …….

Scaruffle!

Heeding Kathleen’s warning that the scarf is a bit short, I added 20 stitches to the cast on. I also wanted to make it work with one skein of the KSH so I combined the final row of picking up the short rows with the bind off row – which worked out fine. I think I had maybe three inches of yarn left over. The details are all on my Ravelry page .

Unlike Shiri, Lucy the Pug offers you nothing. Nothing. Except her alluring beauty.

handspun hat!

Let me first say that Vicki tagged me for the sixth folder/sixth picture meme. So what happened? Why am I a spoil sport?

First, I became paralyzed by trying to decide what exactly constitutes the sixth folder in my crazy picture filing system. If I count it one way, I get one result and if I count another way an entirely different picture!  Then when I finally figured out which approach to take and counted out the sixth folder and the sixth picture, it was one that I cannot put online (one of the D’s friends that I don’t know well enough to just go putting their picture on the Internets).

So then I was just going to pick out any picture and was trying to figure out which one and was beginning to agonize over this, when it hit me that the spontaneity of the whole thing which in fact seemed to be the whole point, had truly eluded me.    ~ heavy sigh ~

So now that that is off my chest – here is a handspun project! This is Thorpe knit with some Blue Face Leicester that has been in my stash for awhile. Over Thanksgiving vacation D#2 arrived home from visiting with friends at midnight. A very reasonable hour.   I was in the den knitting when she came through the door and after we chatted for a bit she said, “I think I will knit insert boyfriend’s name a hat for Christmas”

Have sweeter words ever been spoken? Is any hour too late when a daughter decides to pick up the needles?

We were up until three in the morning picking out a pattern and then the yarn. She decided on Thorpe, but thought that my handspun was a bit too ‘girly’. She found some dark, manly brown yarn in the stash and began  knitting away. And there I am with my handspun, thinking this really would make a great Thorpe.

And there you have it.

I’ve got nothing

absolutely nothing to blog about.

Knitting. Can’t blog about the knitting since I am testing a pattern and it’s hush hush until it’s off the needles. Also with Raverly going strong, even if I could blog about it, it seems redundant. But rest assured I am still knitting. Oh, I just thought of something to tell you ….. do you remember the project, from hell as it turned out? The last you heard, it had entered the deep freeze to get rid of suspected bugs. I am still not sure if it ever did have bugs, since the pugs have made swiss cheese of the screens in my den windows.

Well I finally finished that godforsaken thing and it was delivered to the recipient this weekend. I am not sure if this detail ever made it into the saga, but in the intervening years, the woman it was knit for had stomach banding surgery so the end result is WAY too big!  As many things go with me, that story started out so beautifully all goodness and generosity and ended with  vitriol and judgments.   Knitting friends have assured me that I have gained some good karma in finishing that project, I am not so sure.  Didn’t the amount of bitching I did take away at least some, if not all of the happy goodness?  With knitting is it only a question of whether you finish or does ‘how you play the game’ come into it?

look at that, I did have something to tell you!

Getting back to the things I cannot blog about.  I cannot tell you that both D#1 and D#2 are in the middle of romantic love stories at school. Yes, they are both head over heels and hearing about one of them I actually said the words, ‘I am not this cool’.  But I cannot tell you.  unless you call me on the phone.

I have been working full time at the knitting store for the past few weeks.  The owner’s mother had some surgery and I have been filling in hours.  I have some good stories about some nutty customers, one even  starts out  ‘there was this old lady with a black eye’ ….. but I cannot tell you.  Again, unless you call.

gotta run, the phone is ringing ……
