Please note the absence of any Lopi Lite and the fabulous color! I was excited to discover yesterday that I had in my possession the required crochet hook for the Babette Blanket. I was certain that this project would have to wait until I ran to the store – what joy, I could jump right in!

You can see that I started with the four round squares. Luckily, I didn’t get too far before I had the idea to work my way from the inside out, following the pattern schematic and seaming the sections as I proceed. This blanket consists of different size squares that are all seamed together into larger rectangular sections which are then seamed together log cabin style to complete the blanket. Although I have made color substitutions, I am following the color chart. I think it will be less overwhelming and confusing to seam it as I go along rather than trying to keep track of all of these squares at the end of the project when it comes time to put it together. So I have started a 12 round center square.

Thank you for your input regarding the Bee Shawl/Lotus Blossom Shawl dilemma. I love the Lotus Blossom, but could do without those bobbles hanging from the bottom edge. I wonder how it would look to simply leave them out? Would I replace them with something else? I am going to poke around on Ravelry to see if anyone else has made modifications.

where have I been?

We arrived home from the college touring trip to computer networking problems here at home. Our Number One IT guy aka Herr Boar was able to solve the trouble (our router needed replacing) and we are back in action. I was without my beloved internet all day on Friday and I felt bereft – amazing how much time I actually spend cruising around the ether.

I am over the moon, thrilled to tell you all that that free time was very well spent. I have finished my Hex Coat! And Vicki, by finished I mean blocked, seamed and ends woven in. (sometimes I bind off the last stitch and pronounce a project finished). Be warned that there will be no model shots until the fall. Yesterday I was out by the pool seaming this thing and when I yanked the last thread I pulled it on to check the fit. Yes, Lopi Lite against my sweaty skin wearing only a bathing suit and now this sweater. This my friends is a recipe for an Instantaneous Hot Flash. (it fits like a dream btw!)

Today I am going to organize for the next fiber projects. And I have two on deck! First off is Babette – a feast of colors and I can’t wait to get started on that. I am also going to get some lace going – and am torn between two shawls (feeling like a fool, loving both of them is breaking all the rules …..) the Lotus Blossom and the Bee. bzzzzz.

I bet you weren’t thinking you would be hearing from me so soon after yesterday’s sporadic blogging declaration. It is a bit ridiculous to pronounce you have nothing to say and then post an entry the very next day.

But how can I keep quiet on such a momentous occasion? I had to share my good news – my moss stitch days are over!

Do you see that? Do you know what that means? It’s true – I have reached the underarm! The moment I was convinced would never arrive is finally here. I have achieved underarm shaping on the back piece. THE END IS IN SIGHT PEOPLE! After this, one sleeve remains – which seems like absolutely no big deal after the desolation of the back. And then seaming it up and knitting the hex border and that part will be fun.

A number of you asked what is a Regents test after I mentioned that D#2 took the last of hers. Truth be told they are something of a mystery to me as well. I grew up in PA and had never heard of them until I moved to NY. Here is what Wikipedia has to say. I would summarize by saying that they are subject tests given by the state and a student cannot graduate without passing them. Depending on the courses taken, they begin in the 9th grade and end in either the junior or senior year. D#2 just finished her junior year and took the very last of her Regents exams which was physics. whew. After I finish this post, I am going to plan a three day trip to visit colleges with her.
