I’m bloated ….

I am the Nile!
Which Extremity of the World Are You?
From the towering colossi at Rum and Monkey.

At 4145 miles from your furthest extremity to the Mediterranean Sea, you outdo the Amazon to become the world’s longest river. The piranhas hate you.

Beneath you lies an underground river with six times your volume. You kept this remarkably quiet for several thousand years. In fact, you’re full of mystery; your source wasn’t discovered until 1862. You’re also full of water. And crocodiles. And nuclear pharaoh machines that run on light and can see through time.

thanks Bakerina!

measuringtapePurlingSwine has some shocking news.

Earthshattering really.

I am going to knit myself a sweater.

A Sweater for Me. not a shawl, not mitten, not a hat – a Sweater. And it shall be Banff.

Now that I have seen the Light of Gauge, I am a changed woman. (cue choir music)

I have knit a sweater or two for myself before – but it was long ago and far away and they really didn’t fit me properly. If you clicked on the Banff link, you will see that it is a big, comfy sort of sweater — hardly fitted by any stretch of the imagination. However, I am not going to blindly assume I need to make the large, I am going to measure.

So, not only am I going to swatch and measure my own work I will also need to measure myself.

I forecast the clicking of needles, snapping of tape & gnashing of teeth!

Tied-Up-Tee is ready for blocking! I have seen the blocking light – thanks to ChicKnits! Once it is seamed, I need to decide what to make/use for the lacing – I-cord or something else? I am leaning toward the something else option. I think that the I-cord might look too heavy, especially on the sleeves. What do we think about thin leather laces? This sweater is intended for one, horse crazy daughter, whose favorite jeans have leather lacing at the leg hem …..

This sweater is among one of the first items that I have actually thought about before knitting. I have been knitting for twenty years, but most of that was spent just following patterns – I was a sheep! Now I am starting to really think about what I am doing and how it will effect the end result. I owe most of this to my blog reading. Never before did I consider a selvage edge, the advantage of a decrease over a bind off and the slant of that decrease as a design element. Although this sweater may be little more than stockinette stitch, it represents a lot more. While it is blocking, I am going to do a bit of research on the many seaming techniques …..
