weekend review

What a whirlwind weekend! Let me start with Saturday ….. I set off for NYC to meet up with fellow bloggers and knitters ….

We met at Knit New York — a cute little yarn shop/cafe. It is on 14th Street between 1st and 2nd. When I arrived, I was instantly greeted by Sharon, of Knitknacks and Kathy, another knitter! Actually it was Sharon’s idea to have a get together and I am so glad she thought of it! She was in town from her home state of Michigan – Kathy is a transplanted Michigander and is now living near NYC. It was so easy to just start gabbing away. No sooner than I arrived, in came Linda – the founder of Patternworks, who came all the way from Poughkeepsie for our meet-n-greet. And then Nancy, Bronxgirl and Mindy of Gidget Casts On. They are both savvy city girls – since I have the suburbs in my marrow, it was fascinating to hear their conversations! We all enjoyed some lunch, knitting and chatting away. They all had fabulous projects going – it was great to see all the different yarns and patterns.

After some time, we said goodbye to Nancy (who was off to meet a friend) and moved our party to another yarn shop. This one was in the East Village (at least I think that’s where we were). They all referred to it as Downtown Knits. On our walk there, we met Mindy’s son and her friend Tia who was kind enough to watch him while we all had our lunch. He is the cutest thing and has his own little Bucket Hat!!Here are some pictures of Mindy and Sharon doing a bit of downtown shopping! I loved the interior of this shop — great shelves with a rolling ladder and interesting displays. I wish I had taken more pictures.

It was time then to say goodbye – I walked back to the subway along with Sharon and Kathy who were going to catch a movie and a bite to eat. We stopped at an outdoor flea market along the way. Pretty neat stuff they had there!

These women are just as smart and funny in person as they are on their sites – hope we can do it again in the future!

ps. I really don’t like Typepad’s new set-up for inserting pictures …. the thumbnails are too small and the popups are way too big …. I have to remember to resize them before uploading! ergh.

When it rains it pours …..

It seems I have become quite the city girl. Today, I am off to NYC’s Chinatown with Daughter #2 and her Girlfriend!

Will fill in all the details of both city trips tomorrow!

yarn + dumplings = utopia

Mustang Sally

I am sallying forth today! I am meeting up with fellow knitting bloggers in Manhatten – we are getting together at Knit New York.

This is a big deal for me on a number of levels.

First off — I am going to meet what I am sure will be interesting women – and that’s always great.

Secondly, I am going by myself. My sense of direction is non extant. Kathleen will attest that at yesterday’s Guild meeting, I got a bit turned around leaving the library. And there are a great many others out there who would love to tell you all about the time that I got lost doing something or other, or how I asked for directions a million times — but they will need to get their own damn blogs! What I always say in my defense is ‘I always get there don’t I? And on time — so how lost can I be exactly??!!’

And of course, there is the nervousness about meeting new people. I hope they like me. I know I sound like Sally Field – I really think she got a bum rap with that. All the ridicule that has been heaped on her. Who doesn’t have an inner Sally, hoping, wondering if they will be liked? She was just honest and brave about it.

With all that in mind, going into the city all by my lonesome is something of a milestone for me. If I had an adult years baby book, this would definitely have to be in there.
