dorset buttons

Tonight is Spinning Guild and I am in charge of the program. Martha (fellow spinner and talent extraordinaire) gave me a great tip and suggested I do a tutorial on Dorset Buttons.

These are a great way to make a customized button for your finished product and are fairly simple too! Here is a link to the directions I will be using, although I changed things up at step # 7, they say to do six spokes, but the picture shows eight and that works out much better.

The plastic rings were bought at a local drug store, but anyplace that sells sewing notions would carry them. Other than that, the supply list is simple – tapestry needle and either yarn or embroidery floss. The button on the left was done with embroidery floss and the one on the right was made using leftover Trekking XXL.

WordPress seemed to be acting up this morning and I couldn’t get this entry fully posted. Let’s try this again!

Here is a look at the cable needles that my darling Boar got me for my birthday. They are hand forged, sterling silver from Celtic Swan. Aren’t they gorgeous? Am I worthy?  (don’t answer that!)

I first heard about Celtic Swan through Julia – it was a few years ago, but they’ve be in the back of my mind ever since. See that, I have a reputation for being somewhat forgetful – but I don’t forget everything!  Now I need another cable project to put them to the test!

second verse same as the first!

I knit up another Cabled Newsboy Cap from Stitch n Bitch Nation.  I made one for D#1 a few weeks ago and since it only takes a skein and a half of the Blue Sky Hand Dyed Worsted, I bought another skein and knit up one for D#2.  Waste not want not, I am a model of knitterly efficiency!

Here’s a little secret about the Daughters …. in person I think they look alike in the way the sisters often do.  But in photographs I can hardly tell them apart!
