You will be pleased to learn that I have lived through my youngest daughter’s first boy/girl party. She would insist that I tell you that it “wasn’t a party Mom — they are all just friends!” (should be read with all the superiority and exasperation a 13-soon-to-be-14 person can put into their sighs) They watched the requested movies – The Exorcist and The Shining. My girlie has declared The Shining to be the scarier of the two. I happen to agree.
Those of us over the age of 13-soon-to-be-14 watched Pieces of April. This was a really good movie – Patricia Clarkson was terrific and I was also moved by the performance of the actress playing the ‘good daughter’ – Alison Pill.
Apparently I had quite the sit-on-your-a*s-watching-movies-and-knitting weekend. In addition to Pieces of April, I watched The Shining (no I did not crash my daughter’s party! I watched it the next day …jeesh!) and About Schmidt. A little Jack Nicholson festival. I will have to rent One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest next – but not from Blockbuster!!
Watching it this time I focused more on Wendy played by Shelley Duvall. Whatever happened to her? I remember when I first saw The Shining. It was the first really scary movie that I saw – I went with my girlfriend T. to see it at the Gateway Theater. We had really psyched ourselves up ahead of time and sat gripping each others’ hands throughout the entire thing. I can’t remember which one of us needed to use the bathroom, but in our terror that also became a group effort!!
Alright, the Siskel & Ebert portion of the post is over. On to the knitting:
I am almost done that sock. Considering how much sitting around I did, it should damn well be finished. Can’t say why it isn’t. I was knitting the whole time! Soon, though, very soon. About to start toe decreases.(that sounds like a line out of Misery! wasn’t Kathy Bates terrific in About Schmidt?)
Knitting portion over.
Onto what this morning’s blog reading turned up:

Natal Year number: 2
A sociable individual, Ann is outward-looking, well-balanced and thoughtful. However, she is also pretty conservative by nature, and reluctant to adapt to changes. Unwilling to rely on others for financial or emotional support, Ann will work harder than most to achieve her goals. Yet she is compassionate and supportive of others.
Natal Month number: 9
Although Ann may be relied upon to start her allotted tasks, she cannot always be relied upon to complete them. This is not because Ann is lazy, but because her active brain has alighted upon something else that she wishes to pursue. Nevertheless she has leadership potential and the ability to inspire others with her charm and humour.
Natal House number: 7
Life is likely to provide Ann with many different challenges, but in the end she will overcome the difficulties and make solid progress. She is prone to talk about subjects on which she has little knowledge, but her communication skills are such that she can be quite persuasive. She needs to focus on her long-term objectives.
Maybe it is my active brain’s fault that those socks aren’t finished – which would also explain why the vest and cabled jacket are languishing!!
Anyone out there who has ever asked for my advice on anything may want to take a long hard look at Natal House number: 7.
I am a wind-bag with a large working vocabulary.
You can borrow One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest from “ACKC’s Home of Videos” with no fees and especially, no late charges. By the way, the “released piggys” are freezing their little tails off!! Go away winter.
Those piggy’s need some warm socks….she wouldn’t let me photograph them, though, sorry Ann!!!! But whomever wears sandals on the first day of spring belongs IN One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest!
