we had some excitement here last night ….. D#2 fell off the horse during lessons and then afterward complained that it hurt to breathe deep. After dilly dallying about it, I decided (at friggin 9:30 pm – couldn’t have made this decision at 7!) that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have this looked at. Boar and girlfriends told me that even if she did break a rib there would be nothing to do about it. But I thought it wouldn’t hurt to get it checked and also today would not be good for dealing with this type of thing – better to have it checked when I can actually take her to the x-ray. The end of the story is that Boar was right – nothing was done, and she didn’t actually break her rib, just really banged up. But I do feel better that they looked at it and determined that it is all fine. Of course, I am exhausted now…… got home from the adventure at midnight. She is staying home from school today. And I am off to work.
thanks for all your help with my little aran nightmare —- it has been decided, with the help of Kathleen, who I will torture every step of the way, that I shall knit Irish Moss by Alice Starmore. Yarn shopping happens tomorrow!
Best wishes for a quick recovery for D#2. That’s so scary. I think you did the right thing by taking her in. Yes, if it’s a broken rib there’s not much they can do but at times a broken rib can puncture a lung…. so always a good idea to have it looked at.
Get some rest.
oh, hope she’s back to normal soon. Poor baby. Great decision on the sweater, too.
gentle hugs for our girl L; feel better soon
Rib pain is the worst as every breath hurts. Hope she heals quickly. Enjoy your shopping and knitting! Great choice.
Yay for Irish Moss! Feel free to torture me every step of the way as well — The sweater’s so nice I knit it twice!
Glad your baby is only banged up!
Glad D2 is okay! Very scary. She wears a helmet, right?
By the way, have you always had your own URL or is that new? Hmmm.
I hope D2 recovers quickly. I took a nasty spill from a unicycle (God only knows what possessed me to attempt to ride a unicycle) when I was in high school and badly bruised my ribs. It was excruciatingly painful. I was thankful then, too, that my mother took me “just in case”.
And that sweater – It is gorgeous. I might not ever want to knit it (as I have never so much as attempted an Aran sweater) but I would be perfectly willing to have the model come sit at my house and look scruffy and sexy! ;) I wonder what my handsome prince would have to say about that….
Good luck with the sweater. I can’t wait to see the progress.
awww poor D2! Thank god she didnt get hurt worse. give her a ‘gentle’ hug for me. xoxo
Good choice for the next sweater.
For what it’s worth, I think a mother’s instinct is always worth listening to. What if she’d really broken it badly and it was poking a lung? THEN they’d have to do something. OK, perhaps I’m an alarmist, but if you hadn’t had it checked out, you would have spent the whole night awake worrying about D#2. I hope she’s feeling much better now.
I fell off a horse once when I was a kid, pretty scary stuff. I kept on riding in the future, but when my bum hit the ground, at that moment, I thought I might have broken a leg or something! I’m glad that D#2 is ok. :)
We have had our share of falling off horses around these parts. Glad all is well.
I love Irish Moss, it is a great sweater. You should measure a sweater or sweatshirt that Boar likes the fit of and knit to match that. Enjoy the yarn shopping.
