Quaker_stitch_bootie_1

The almost finished Quaker stitch bootie.  I still have to make a bit of chain stitching or I cord to be threaded through eyelets that are near the ankle.  Oh, and I must knit the other bootie!  I am going to go through Nicky Epstein’s Knitted Embellishments book to see if I can find a pattern for a little something to attach to the end of the I cord.

This is the girls’ last full week of school and then begins finals.  Due to her status as a senior and her good grades, Daughter #1 has been exempt from taking many of them.  Despite her good grades Daughter #2’s status as a freshman means she will be taking all of them.  oh well – her day will come.  Then it will be prom and graduation!

That week will be a whirlwind.  A good whirlwind.  We are getting some out-of-town company for the graduation and I have recently found out that a certain smoke-free blogger will be in NYC!  To say I am excited is an understatement of the highest order.

In my more immediate future:  laundry and hedge trimming.  It is time to pull the ole Edward Scissorhands on the box woods and I have decided that today is a good day to go through the winter woolens bin to wash all the hats, scarves and mittens ….. this will lead to an organizing of the closet where these things are stashed.  And then, rather than put them all away, I will go through all of these sweet smelling warmers and make a separate pile for Daughter #1 to take to college in the fall.    ~sniff~

Did I mention our pool sprung a leak?  Through the process of elimination, Boar determined that source of the leak was the housing of the underwater light.

Our very own little Deep Throat scandal.

Do you see the contraption my Boar rigged up?  He needed to clean out the housing before beginning the fix and the pool water is freezing.  So the housing is caulked to within an inch of its life.  Now it has to ‘cure’ for seven days.

Hopefully the pool will be cured as well.  That Boar – not only hard working, but inventive too!

In knitting news I cast on for a pair of baby booties to go along with the pumpkin hat.  These are a very old pattern that my grandmother wrote down at some point.  The cuff is Quaker stitch.

Even though this post is disjointed, I am going to click the save button — this morning is growing too hectic for blogging ….

mm mmm Good ….

Since I took such a teasing from she-who-shall-not-be-named over my Costco cheesecake, I thought a little Betty Crocker action was in order for our knitting get together last night.  On the left is a brownie-esque thing prior to baking and on the right is a pecan coffee cake.  The brownie-esque thing came from a recipe on the side of a box of cake mix, the coffee cake however is from scratch.

We had a great time – Peggy, Kathleen and Joy brought their knitting and we had a lot of laughs.  I am working on the second Retro Rib sock.  I really should turn my attention back to Halycon once this sock is done.  not to mention my spinning ….

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  Mine will be filled with a Bar Mitzvah on Saturday and assisting in fixing our leaking pool (egads — it is always something) on Sunday – with some knitting thrown in for good measure!
