uncle!

I thought that the RSS feed would automatically update with the new domain mapping, but I see that isn’t the case. I also need to figure out why my archived pictures didn’t make the transfer.

I added an RSS feed button to my side bar. After I got it all set up, I saw that WordPress had already put one at the top of the page. So please update your links – I’d hate to see my readership drop to the single digits! ;)

the move

I spent most of yesterday tinkering around with WordPress. I managed to import my entries from Typepad. I have been keeping this blog since 2003 and did not realize just how many entries that would be. So I also spent a good deal of time categorizing the uncategorized (which is not necessary, just something I would like to have), only 1545 more to go!

When Mr. Boar got home he helped to re-map my domain name. Actually he did the re-mapping while I looked helpfully over his shoulder giving him good tips which I know he appreciated. He likes it when I do that while he’s driving too. Seriously though, even though I type in purlingswine.com, the wordpress part still shows up so I think maybe some more re-mapping is on the horizon. But the important thing is that it gets you here.

Today I am off to a dentist appointment and then work at Granny’s. A reminder for all you Long Island knitters and fiber lovers — this is the last week for Granny’s sale, get ’em while they’re hot!

Sadly, or no?, today marks the last of the official Year of the Pig pictures. I know and many of you know that I have loads more pigs. But those things are either in the back of cupboards or packed away in boxes. I am sure more pig pictures will pop up on this site from time to time. We are leaving off with my pig Martin who sits out front by our driveway lantern. He is a full sized porcine replica and I am sure the neighbors love it! (actually I had a garage sale a few years ago where lots of people said how much they like him).

My morning spinning routine is paying off. I have managed to spin and ply another of last year’s Rhinebeck purchases! In my mind this will free me up for some guilt free spending at the festival this year.

Last year I had a strategy to try and break out of my typical color choices. I would say that my weakness with both my knitting and my spinning lays in my color spectrum or lack thereof. I gravitate towards the same colors over and over again and have trouble seeing how a touch of a more vibrant color will set a whole different tone for the yarn and the project.

With that being said, I still don’t like this yarn! I need to see it knit up – maybe then that yellow and fuscia will work themselves into some kind of peaceful accord. There are a few crosshatch scarf patterns out there and that type of stitch pattern could be just the thing.

Here’s a funny little story – I was so intent on breaking out of my color chains that when I saw this yarn I must have been temporarily blinded and thought the tag said it was Blue Faced Leicester. Everyone raves about BFL and I was exicted to give it a try – some BFL and new colors – it was a jackpot of experiences! So I start spinning this stuff last week and call Cara to say “WTF?? I don’t understand why everyone raves about this stuff! It is not a dream to spin – a bit rough and nubbly.” Even in her pregnancy delirium she was able to say, “You idiot – it’s Blue Faced Leicester, not Border Leicester!”

if you can’t laugh at your friends, it’s not worth having them. I happen to have some BFL on the wheel right now and that stuff is like butter!

Do you know that Spin Out is this weekend? Cara has been hard at work organizing this event – and the raffle prizes are even more spectacular this year! The weather reports are also looking promising. Check it out and join us! Even with the deluge of rain last year it was tons of fun.

What do you think about the new digs? I am seriously loving this WordPress site and as soon as I can corral Boar into helping me map my domain name, I will make this move official …….

a little change

did you see Virginia’s new place? doesn’t it look fabulous?

I am overcome with jealousy. My blog has been boring me lately (and I can imagine what a yawn it is for you!) so I thought that a little change might be a good thing. WordPress is much more user friendly than I thought it would be …..

I am going to tinker around here for a little while longer before I make an official jump.

how about a picture?

My good friend Lisa brought this home from Miami especially for me
