a pillow & an epiphany

I wanted to share with you my moment of pure brilliance. It happened while I was seaming this pillow.

I was in the middle of the first side, seaming along and pondering the pillow. It is a Christmas gift for a dog loving friend. I was thinking specifically about how to seam this pillow to make washing it at some future date an easier task, one where you wouldn’t have to take the whole pillow apart. It occurred to me were I to seam the bottom with its own thread of yarn, when it needed to be washed my friend would simply need to take apart the bottom seam and only the bottom seam. By having its own seaming thread, there is no danger of involving the other adjoining seams!

And although I am blogging in the quiet of morning, rest assured I do hear your thunderous applause.

  1. What is the sound of one hand clapping?

Seriously though you think Flaire’s gonna RE-seam the pillow? I’m the one that’s going to be reseaming. Thanks.

  2. It IS a good idea . . . but is that single-side seam going to be a different color, or something? So she’ll be able to tell which of the four sides it is? (grin) The pillow looks great!

  3. Awesome pillow! A zipper might be better… I hardly ever get around to washing a pillow my grandma gave me, because it means resewing the bottom seam. (I should put a zipper or buttons in it!)

  4. Love that pillow! You could make the seam part of the design by using a ribbon to “sew” the seam. Perhaps 2 ribbons, starting at either end and tied into a bow in the middle.
Love love love that little woofie!

  5. Thunderous applause. For you and for Flaire handing the reseaming off to Cara.

That is one cute puppy pillow. And the Log Cabin! I lurve log cabins. I think my blanket is now destined to be a pillow. Thank you!

  6. Ann,great idea, but are you THINKING about all those knitting projects of mine that are stashed all over my house in pieces ??? That being said, I love that pillow almost as much as it’s inspiration!

Cara, I’ll read to you from “dear flair” while you reseam!
