Update: the meeting went astoundingly well. Everyone agreed that D#2 is a stellar student. Everyone agreed that she truly did not understand the assignment – that more than simply translating Macbeth into modern language, she should also have updated it to modern scenery, situation etc. This type of assignment would have needed no citations. Because D#2 simply translated it to modern language, hers was a very technical translation. Both the teacher and principal have explained that such a technical translation would have needed citations even if that translation only used the textbook. But they further agreed that D#2 honestly thought the assignment didn’t require citations and that the whole thing was simply a big mix up in communication. The end result is D#2 will do the assignment over. I do not know what will happen with the other four students also accused. Now I am left with the feeling that good! D#2 will not be penalized, but with the lingering suspicion that in fact I may have plagarized my way through college. shh ~ don’t tell.

thank you thank you for your encouragment yesterday. I have an appointment this morning with the principal and guidance councilor and hopefully this incident will be over by the afternoon. I told my FAinPA that I must need some therapy to resolve guilt issues surrounding confronting teachers. : )

Can you believe I actually have some valid knitting content? Something beyond I’m still knitting the stockinette nightmare? Well it’s still stockinette, that hasn’t changed. Remember that I told you I was following another pattern design for the sleeves? I realized that although I like the shape of those sleeves, that I want more ease than the pattern allows. I knew I could make adjustments through my mad mathematical skillz but I also remembered that I have this. Knitable is a knitting program for your PalmPilot or any pda. I have had it for years and first got it to keep track of my needle inventory. I have never used any of its other features – until yesterday! It has an application that will figure your rate of increase or decrease given your gauge and the measurement.

I wonder what other tricks it can do?
but let’s not let the pda have all the glory ~ oink!

threesomes

I have died and gone to heaven. I recently discovered that my phone service allows me to do three way calling! I spent Sunday afternoon chatting with Vicki and Cara, Sunday night in my favorite chair, knitting and watching the Oscars with Cara and Flair. Then yesterday morning it was Ricki & Peggy. I have been sitting on a gold mine this entire time and never knew it! it’s triple the fun (now I sound like a gum commercial).

As I am typing this, I am watching the E! Channel’s Fashion Police show. They are claiming that viewers phoned in and declared Beyonce the best dressed. This is not to be believed. That woman looks like a perpetual pageant queen. Actually a very funny thing happened during Sunday’s Oscar phone call. Flair and I were saying how hideous Beyonce’s dress was and suddenly Flair thought she heard someone saying that Armani did the dress.

flair: OMG she just said Armani made that gown no way did Armani make that thing

me: are you sure she didn’t say My Mommy?

I hope that reads as funny as it was – it was a side splitter for sure!

Hopefully today will hold some laughs – I am off to do battle at D#2’s school. I was raised by teachers and I kid you not when I say that every female on my mother’s side of the family were teachers. I do not interfere, preferring to let them (both the kids and their teachers) do their jobs. This has been a wonderful policy and both girls have done marvelously well in school.

Well, D#2 has been accused of plagiarism. I take this kind of thing very very seriously and if I thought for one minute it were true, believe me heads would be rolling around here. I might be all fun and laughs with the girlfriends, but my daughters have an entirely different opinion of me. They think I’m kinda scary. And I am kinda scary. Anyway in a four page paper, the teacher claims that because D#2 did not cite the thesaurus used for translating one word of old English (they are studying Macbeth) that this is plagiarism and she should get a 0 for her work. None of the papers used citations. Up until this moment, D#2 has maintained a 98 average in this class and gets glowing comments on all progress reports. I would also like to add that this very teacher is also the faculty adviser for the National Honor Society. They had a preliminary meeting for all students eligible. When she walked into the room and took a head count, she announced that this was way too many students. Since that day she has accused five students of plagiarism. I think it’s a load of crap and I am requesting a meeting with the teacher, the principal, the guidance councilor and D#2. Wish me luck – I am so not used to this. I need to channel some calm yet fierce energy instead of this wild furious hysteria I am feeling.

as promised, knitting & pigs! I brought the sweater outdoors to take the picture and while I was out there decided to also take a picture of a cute little pig plaque that is on our deck. I have emerged momentarily from the lightbox. : )

D#2 is away on a college trip with a friend and her family. I am going to put in some extra hours at the knitting shop. And a quiet weekend is ahead …….

calorimetry

I know many of you are suckers for the button tin. Here are some pictures of mine.

This was inherited from my Grammy. Many of the buttons are loosely tied together and many came from dress shirts – carefully snipped off and tied together before the shirt went to the rag bin. I have to confess that I myself have not added much to the button tin. At least not many buttons – all that incidental crap in the first picture are things I have tossed in there when I couldn’t be bothered to find a real home for them.

I went digging through the bin to find a button for a little FO – a finished Calorimetry! I started this project while mulling over my recent yarn dilemas.

Click here for a look at the button options. The button sits at the nape of the neck, so I used the one on the bottom right since it has the lowest profile.
