a box

Over the weekend, this giant box was brought up from the basement. Here is list of what I have been able to find out ….

  • it is something I will want. Not anything that I’ve said I’ve wanted.
  • it is heavy.
  • it was D#2’s idea
  • once they got it, the Boar took it into his workroom to customize it
  • when Boar went shopping for the customization, he went to Home Depot, but said that if they didn’t have what he needed, he would go to Kohl’s.
  • it is not in the box it came in
  • it is in a wooden box inside the box (see picture taken through carry handle hole in side of box that didn’t get covered in wrapping paper)
  • in order to get it, D#2 did something that was out of the ordinary for her
  • Boar and D#2 have been cooking this up for a few weeks.
  • D#1 has just gotten in on it since she is home from college

any guesses?

blogging may be light for now. I am working extra hours at the shop this week and company arrives this weekend. I need to throw things into high gear if I am going to be ready ….. of course, if any more clues come to light, things will be updated immediately!

pom pom envy

I will admit, the concert was good.

But not good enough to be worth missing The Office. Mr. Boar had set the machine up to burn the episode to a disc. He even went to Radio Shack to get a blank disc. For reason that remain yet a mystery – it didn’t work.

No problem – I’ll just get it from Itunes, right?

Wrong.

panic is now rising. why doesn’t Itunes have it? what is going on? maybe I checked too soon last night in the Itunes store? well it isn’t there this morning either. As a matter of fact, it doesn’t seem like they have every single episode. crap.

thank God for Cara — she burned a disc and will send it to me! YAY!!

and now for a small, pictureless pom-pom tutorial…….

  • I think the key to a good pom-pom is wrapping the yarn many, many more times than you think you need.
  • Wrap the yarn around a dvd case. this also made a pom-pom that is way too big, so you may want to find a smaller item. Make sure whatever you find is stiff – the wrapping will make some things (like index cards) bend.
  • Wrap and Wrap.
  • Once it is all wrapped, slide the bulk down to the end of the dvd case, but not off.
  • A double length of yarn is used to secure the pom-pom together and also to secure it to your item. Make sure it is doubled and long.
  • Take the doubled length of yarn and using a tapestry needle thread the yarn behind the wraps on one side of the case, come over the edge of the case and go behind the wraps on the other side. In this way, you are tying it around the wraps on both sides of the case.
  • After it is securely lassoed slide the whole thing off of the case and really tighten that double length of yarn.
  • Then cut all the loops!
  • jump around the room like a cheerleader and wonder if you should have made it bigger.

I have finished another ganomy!

so my pictures suck

As you can see I ended this one with a pom-pom. And this is the pom-pom after I trimmed it! Maybe I should trim it some more? Yes, I have a thing for big pom-poms.

Having completed two successful hat projects which included pattern modifications, I am feeling confident that my knitting gris gris has turned away from the dark side. The next project in my hands WILL be that sweater.

the power of wool compels me the power of wool compels me the power of wool compels me the power ofwool compels me

and now for the part where I concede my Mother of The Year title for the 20th consecutive year …….. tonight is D#2’s winter concert. This sucks on many levels but by far the biggest is that I will be missing the one hour Office extravaganza. argh!! D#2 is a rabid fan as well and she is equally devastated.

Yes, I know I can tape it. But somehow, it’s just not the same.

I’d rather tape the concert.
