The Power of Wool Compels You The Power of Wool Compels You

When we left off, I was being chased through the woods by the Blair Sweater. …… Metaphorically speaking. Cause you know, even though that sweater is kicking my ass, I could still beat it in a foot race. Ha! who’s the scaredy cat now Sweater?!

Kay has christened this horror show The Silence of the Pugs.

just look at my trusty guard dogs (&cat) in action!

although I have achieved a finished project this weekend, it is probably too soon to break into a rousing chorus of Ding Dong the Witch is Dead. I should finish a few successful rows on That Sweater first I suppose.

Ganomy Hat by Elizabeth Zimmerman
some patterns mods by me!
yarn: Unikat
notice the new reading glasses?

I agree. It was completely nervy of me to modify a Zimmerman pattern when I cannot seem to knit a single row on anything else! This hat is a fabulous pattern and I highly recommend it. It calls for decreasing to 14 stitches at the top, and then inserting a ping pong ball and tying it off within the top of the hat for a buoyant and gnome-like ending.

D#2 did not want to look gnomish. So I added a line of double decreases along the front and back in order to reduce the stitch count more quickly. She looks adorable in it, but declined a photo-op this morning since she had gotten her hair just so.

god help me if I run out of yarn

Yesterday I described the malevolent creature my sweater project has become. Things have only gotten worse.

I think I can hear it breathing. And last night, there was a scuttling noise.

help me – it’s a Blair Sweater Project

In the comments, Mary Beth agreed that things can and do go haywire in knitting projects. However, she expressed doubts about a sweater’s ability to dial the phone. [word to the wise: these disbelievers are always the ones who end up running through the house with whatever-couldn’t-be-possible hot on their heels]

Here is a copy of my reply:

it has a life and mind of its own. I swear. Last night, I even think I saw gleaming eyes staring out from my knitting bag.

I have started a hat. I consider it a “palate cleanser” while I wait for my bad sweater mojo to calm down somewhat!

truth be told, I consider this more than a hat
it’s a freaking exorcism.

~cue the ominous music~

holy cow — you guys just love pictures of dogs in bed! If I could get them all to play poker and snap a picture of it, I wonder how many comments I would have?

guess who is laying in bed this morning?

me! and you should be thankful there is no pictorial! it would burn your retinas.

Now before you start thinking about what an easy life I have, let me say that my being in bed is less about luxuriating and more about hiding.

I am hiding from my sweater project.

I am beginning to suspect that this sweater has developed some kind of will of its own and does not want to be knit. I wouldn’t be surprised if this thing made the phone ring and asked me, in a high, scratchy and menacing voice if I were alone in the house. Or if I knew where my children are.

After a great deal of trial and error, I finished the back. I cast on for the front and am knitting away on the K2P3 ribbing. I am thinking that all of my troubles are behind me and isn’t it right and good that I was so particular about the back and how now I will have a fabulous finished product.

It’s a bit too complicated to explain how this next part happened. Suffice to say that there had been some undetected needle confusion. It all has to do with the gauge issues I experienced while knitting the back. It also has to do with my complete lack of short term memory. I was using needles two sizes smaller than I needed! more ripping.

and now I am hiding. It is out in the den.

just waiting for me.

morning has broken

It is 9:57 am. I have been up since 6:15. The house has been cleaned, laundry folded, ice lanterns made (told you I was a ice lantern machine!), dishwasher unloaded and I have even managed to read some blogs.

Yet with all of this industry, here is a picture of my bed:

why hasn’t it been made?

how about a closer look ……
