so Ann, how was your day in the City?

I must say that Cara has done an excellent job detailing our adventures. Go over and read her post and then come back here.

Okay, so we really did have a great day walking all over the place and laughing it up. But here are a Few things I would like to say on the subject:

  • She left out the part about all of us trying to find each other in Penn Station. Even with cell phones fully functioning, it was a bit tricky. Particularly funny and creepy was Cara sneaking up behind me and really sort of freaking me out and then the both of us having the damnedest time finding Kay. She’s wily, that one.
  • I do not walk slowly. Cara told everyone that walking with me was “dude, like when you are driving 85 mph and then get stuck behind someone going 60 mph and if feels like you are going 20 mph.” In her analogy, I am the one going 60 mph. This is NOT slow. It is just not freakishly fast.
  • I had no idea where we were for most of the day. We went to Purl, I thought we were at the Point. My discombobulation was so great I didn’t know we were lost in the rain in SoHo until I read about it on Cara’s site this morning.
  • I only sort of called her squares crap. When you’re looking at beach pictures on her site with 43 year old eyes, you might wonder out loud what that crap hanging from the beach umbrella is. You might also be on the phone with the beach goer when these words spring forth from your mouth. When you get a better look at these squares you will agree that they are most definitely not crap, not some kind of weird seaweed that has attached itself to her beach umbrella.
  • I would also like to restate for the record how great it was to hang out with fellow knitters and bloggers! I got to meet Bakerina (yay!!) who is even better in real life than she is on her blog, I chatted on the phone with Snow who has a deeper voice than I had imagined. I also met Katy a new-to-me blogger and her fabulous sweater. That girl can knit. And of course the Belle of the Ball, Wendy herself!

he’s my number one!

D#2 had a band concert last night. First on the line up was Star Wars Imperial March – Darth Vader’s Theme. I turned to Boar (who is a fan of all things outerspacy) and said, “wow hon, look what they’re playing – are you going to get up and dance?”

He turns to me with great Trekkie disdain and says, “It’s not the Cantina Song.”

he’s all pointy ears and nanu-nanu,

The Trellis Scarf is coming along nicely. I had a moment where I thought I was almost finished and was so happy and pleased to be nearing the end. I was mentally congratulating myself on my return to lace (I have knit lace patterns, but they were pre-blog) I even seemed to be knitting faster. And then I realized I had miscounted and I was nearing the halfway point!! That was a bit deflating. I am now 7 pattern repeats away from the end border pattern – so the end is in sight! I get loads of compliments on this – how about a closer look?

ps. I tried to take a picture of my vest swatch, but have failed miserably. Will give it another go – maybe when I finished the swatch.

how much does a pint of blood weigh?

A few of you have wondered what I had for dinner last night. Here is a copy of an email I just sent – be warned it’s a bit ‘more than you really wanted to know’.

egads Vicki – I completely and totally blew WW to hell yesterday. The day started off with the French Toast, which was delicious & indulgent but still manageable within the whole WW scheme of things. However, Boar and I went for a stroll through a lovely little town by us and I was overcome with a hamburger urge – much in the manner of Wimpy from Popeye.

We went to this place called the American Burger Company and had burgers and fries. They were so damn good and so damn decadent.

I then came home and immediately got my period.

my only hope for weight loss this week is the fact that I seem to be bleeding to death.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Historically speaking, I have always planned our Mother’s Day activities. I usually get on the phone with my mother in law and we figure out who is going to have brunch or a bbq, what we will serve etc. Well, this year MiL will be in Florida visiting with her daughter, Boar’s sister who has recently moved there.

The Boar understands all of these facts on their own. I was not convinced however that taken as a whole, he understood the implication …… Ann, the mother of my children, is not planning Mother’s Day this year. My first impulse was to wait him out and see what happens.

This of course, is a fight just waiting to happen. I have paid way too much in marriage counseling to not recognize an idea with so much stink all over it. Boar is not a mind reader. Even if the print is extra large and it is practically written in the sky.

So in an adult like manner, I put all the pieces together for him. Just in case it still doesn’t work, I also inform D#2 – the only one of my progeny who will be here.

I was very pleased when Boar said to me the next day that he had come up with a ‘meal plan’ for the day. doesn’t that sound like cafeteria talk? meal plan?? Internally, I giggle and make a mental note to tell all of the girlfriends that one.

Boar says he is going to prepare Shrimp Scampi for me! He is thrilled and very proud of himself. Much in the manner of your preschooler handing you macaroni art. I am quite sure that Boar has never seen me eat shrimp scampi or even heard me talk about shrimp scampi in all of the years we are married. It’s not that I don’t like shrimp scampi —- I could really care less about shrimp scampi. I would rather eat a bowl of cereal.

But he is so pleased, that I act pleased and we discuss the shrimp scampi. He says that he will also make some salad since the scampi will blow my diet all to hell. He talks about other scampi related things. He’s really pleased with himself and I am happy that he is going to do something.

I finally say to him, “What made you think of shrimp scampi?”

He says, “I’ve really been in the mood for it!”

ladies, it does not end there ………

I say to him, “you see Boar, when you are planning a meal in honor of someone else, you usually think about what they would like to eat and then you make that.”

He starts laughing, thinks for a few minutes and then says really excitedly, “oh, I know I know —- how about Corned Beef and Cabbage?”

and he was not joking.

does it go without saying that Corned Beef & Cabbage is another of Boar’s most favorite meals?

ps. a good friend informed him that he had better produce some French Toast or there would be hell to pay.
