Poe has a crazy love affair going with his tennis ball. Any tennis ball actually. He gets really really crazy about it. He loves to have it thrown so he can run and catch it. No matter where I am or what I am doing, if he has this ball, he wants me to play too. When I am spinning, he will drop it on my feet, when I am in the bathtub, he plops it in there with me. This morning as I was swimming laps in the pool, he kept dropping it at either end.

What these pictures don’t capture is the high pitched whining, almost a hum and his quivering body. He vibrates with this thing!

He’s nuts. And he makes all of us nuts with the ball, until we get fed up and then have to hide it from him. At which point he trots all around the house, humming, quivering and sniffing. Sniffing, sniffing.

And then he finds it!

The only successful hiding spot is in the dog food bin.

I swear he’s part bloodhound.

and part pain in the ass

so, so close ….

Last night’s spinning guild meeting was fairly exciting and so I did not quite complete the socks.

This pattern widened my sock knitting repertoire to include a French Heel and a Rounded Toe. I surprised myself by liking them both – especially the rounded toe. I love the way the two sided decrease toe looks and feels and truly didn’t think I would like this other method – but I was wrong! Here is a closer look at the pattern stitch in the cuff. I will say that it shows up much better when the sock in being worn, but here goes …..

I need to finish these up and find a new project quic! We are going on a road trip tomorrow to visit D#1 and also spend some time with my Brother and SiL. I will be needing another sock pattern for extended car ride knitting.

and although none of you has asked ~ahem~ I just know you have been missing seeing little black pug pictures …… and I always say to give the people what they want. Actually, I never say that, but maybe I’ll start. This is what he as been doing as I have been typing this post – do you think he’s trying to tell me something?

please note that Mr. Poe does not really have demonically possessed blue eyes – they’re more a demonically possessed brown.

Things have been a bit busy around here lately and the blog was neglected. First and foremost, our sweet dog Daisy, who had been diagnosed with a heart condition back in the fall, had to be put to sleep. She seemed to suffer a heart attack on Thursday of last week. This necessitated an trip to the emergency vet clinic and an overnight stay. We saw our vet the next morning and he put her on another medication, but did not hold out much hope, her heart had become even more enlarged. So we brought Daisy home where she enjoyed a few days of sunshine and chicken & rice. On Monday, she had another episode and the decision was made. She certainly was the very best of our dogs – sweet and friendly. We are left with three dogs and one cat and as crazy as it sounds, it feels like not so many!

The other thing that has taken time away from purlingswine is a house project …..

Here is a terribly backlit picture of my bedroom. The past days have been spent moving furniture, spackling, painting etc. I have been mulling over this project for a number of months and decided to take the plunge. It is not clear from the pictures, but I did use two different colors – trout gray and silver spring from Benjamin Moore. Here is a picture of the corner using the flash, hopfully you will be able to see it.

And because Vicki and I love to show each other our treasures, a picture of an old card catalogue from the local library. When we moved into this house it was the end of September. I saw an add in the local newspaper saying the library was holding a silent auction for some of their card catalogues. So I put in a bid and forgot all about it. I heard in December that I won! The house was in a bit of turmoil with Christmas, so John and I simply set it in our bedroom thinking that we would find a permanent home for it after the holiday hub-bub. It is amazing how quickly those drawers fill up and it has been in the same spot ever since.

Last but not least, how about some Pug on a Rug?
