My recipe box came from my mother’s house. Since counter space was at a premium, it used to sit on top of the fridge. My mother loved to collect things – antiques were high on her list followed by cookbooks and recipes. (I know, the apple didn’t fall far!)

At some point in the late 70’s, she got her hands on this two drawer portion of a library card catalog and moved all of her recipe cards from the more typical recipe box into this.

I am sharing one of my Grandmother’s recipes for Chocolate Chip Coffee Ring – it’s a keeper!

I love gadgets. I especially love kitchen gadgets. I saw this egg timer on the Lee Valley Tools website, which has the most wonderful things btw, and knew I had to have one.

But Ann, why can’t you boil an egg?

eggs have become a thing with me. I have been in search of the perfect cooking method for eggs – specifically hard boiled eggs. Once I learned that the grayish ring was a no-no I had to banish it forever. There must be no grayish ring!

Making myself a bit crazy(ier) over this and perpetually consulting cookbooks and websites, I would find the perfect combination of eggs in before or after the boil and time, I would forget what they hell I did the next time I wanted to make eggs. what’s the matter with me??

sadly, these are the issues that grip my days.

I am happy to say that I have freed up loads of time with this little gizmo. You simply put it in the pot along with the eggs, fill with water, bring to a boil and simmer until it says it’s had enough. Life is so much simpler now.

now what should I obsess about?

but it has been too long!!

Quickly – D#2 seems to be much improved. She is still not 100%, maybe more like 88%. The Dr. thinks it is a viral thing – lots of weird things going around here lately. Thank you for all your comments and concern! She is pretty much back to her regular schedule, just taking it easy when she feels she needs to (and sometimes when I feel she needs to).

A few of you asked what diet I was on that required a daily soak in a hot tub. Kay inspired me to give the Ultra Simple Diet a try. I also have the Ultra Metabolism book, but haven’t gotten to that yet. I just finished the first week and have to say that this program is working very well for me so far. And it does require a relaxing bath at the end of the day!! I have lost 6 pounds in the first week and an inch off my waist. The much better thing is that I feel great. In the past when I have lost weight, I don’t know if I could say that – at least not at the outset. I really feel terrific (didn’t realize that I wasn’t feeling terrific).

enough about that – I don’t want to jinx it!

how about some knitting chat? This yarn just arrived on my porch! I originally ordered it in gray but it was sadly out of stock. So I replaced it with the evergreen color. I am planning on knitting Boar the Wall Street Vest from the book Arans & Celtics: The Best of Knitter’s Magazine. Here is a Ravelry picture of the project. I have borrowed this book from my library, but am inclined to purchase a copy for my shelf. I am hoping to start a gauge swatch today and will finally have some knitting I can put on my blog since Boar never reads it.

This guy is center stage above my stovetop. I found him in an antique shop in Cape May, NJ many moons ago. Any guesses what he is? I will put the answer in the “continue reading” section.

It’s rainy and slightly chilly here today – the perfect day for knitting! and also the perfect day for soup – I am going to give this recipe a try.

Are you wondering how D#2 did on that test yesterday? She thinks she did ‘okay’. A quick D#2 translation of ‘okay’ means she thinks she got a B. For me, a B in math would have been cause for celebration – parades, banners, you name it, bring on the confetti! She has a reprieve until next week when her last two exams are scheduled. Of course that’s what I think she has – which as proven yesterday is open to debate. First thing on D#2’s to-do list will be to check her exam schedule!

I suppose I should turn the computer off now. That freakin’ moss stitch isn’t going to knit itself!
