I realize that will completely lose the sympathy of anyone who reads this site when I tell them this:

I am going away again this weekend. Yes, another R&R weekend. Yes, I just had one last weekend. And yes, I hardly need them considering what an enchanted life I lead to begin with.

This time, I am heading to the Bershires to the Kripalu center for a weekend of yoga and knitting.

I am going with my good friend Ricki and we will hit the road the minute we put all the kids on the bus tomorrow morning. I will have lots to share when I get back – must remember to pack the camera.

Today I will be working at Granny’s. I will be slaving away with Kathleen. No doubt we will be having lots of laughs. I have been enjoying this job, although it is probably not a good sign to show up at work with a shopping list! In addition to getting an employee’s discount, NY State has a no tax week at the moment and it extends to yarn! It is only fiscal responsibility that is driving my purchases …. I will be saving money. The term for spending money in order to save money is spave.

I shall be spaving all over the place today.

This past weekend, I went with my friends Mary and Tina to Sea Isle, NJ. Tina has a vacation home there. We have been friends since the age of 10 and it is easy to pick right up whenever we get together. We had a great time – gabbing, knitting and spinning. I brought my wheel with me – Mary is a knitter who now wants a spinning wheel and she in turn taught Tina to knit — so the weekend netted two converts for the flock! While there, these babies came off the needles:

and were immediately pressed into service for a walk on the boardwalk! If you remember, I had run out of yarn and ended up finishing with Koigu. I think I picked a good color match. The Koigu is a bit thinner than the StR, but all in all a good yarn to use for this emergency.

Mary also finished up a sock or two this weekend and a big, big shout out to FA in PA who has been working hard on her second pair of socks!! I treated each of them to a skank of Trekking as way of welcome to the addiction of sock knitting. Let’s hear it for the ladies!

on the left a feather and fan shawl/scarf thingamagig. I bought this yarn two years ago at Rhinebeck and it is about time I used it. The right is a progress picture of my Brook’s Farm Four Play starring in the Chinese Sweater pattern……

and now I must trot along —- the phone won’t stop ringing!

Did you come here from Cara’s? Did you see I have been a bad Jaywalker alonger and got a WTF?? Once I saw that, I knew I’d better post something and quick. Freakin Cara. Let me tell you something — there are reasons I haven’t posted about these socks. And here is the main reason:

I HATE THEM.

Am I the only Jaywalker Alonger who is standing in the middle of the intersection whining? I am running out of the fu*king yarn. Yeah. I know. I knew before I started that I would run out. Still, I am pissed.

Margene (who, by the way, never says WTF to me and only sends me presents and I think she sometimes sings me love songs…. I know she at least hums them) actually had some good Jaywalker advise last night and so I have once again picked them up and am working away. But it is more with the cranky air of get-these-things-off-of-my-needles than the giddy happiness of other Jaywalkers.

one more thing ……. today I got a job. A temporary, part time job. The world is always after me to have a job and about every six months or so, someone offers me employment, even though I am not seeking employment. I must look job hungry.

Today it was Kathleen and Granny – so I got me a little bit of a yarn shop gig!

skank trouble

A few years ago, my good friend Mary pointed out one of my more charming habits. One which I didn’t realize I did, but once she put it into words, I couldn’t deny. You would think that just hearing it out loud would have changed me, but alas no.

So here it is —- even when faced with an undeniable truth, time and time again, I will be surprised, shocked and perhaps outraged. No matter how many times I seem to accept the truth, when faced with it, I will be stunned.

And so it goes with my Jaywalkers done in the Socks that Rock. I knew going into this pattern that there had been trouble. The STR skeins that I purchased at Rhinebeck have 325 yds. This was proving to be not enough for feet larger than a ladies 7.5. (the STR people have addressed this problem and increased the yardage)

Through the glories of the internets and knitting blogs, I was well aware of the likely, nay certain outcome. I will not have enough and should plan on either ¹ordering more or ²doing the toe in a different color and/or yarn (any suggestions?) ,or ³loping off a toe.

Yet still I deluded myself and in fact, continue to entertain a little flickering hope that I will have enough, that I alone will be the exception to the Sasquatch Need Not Apply rule.

I stopped knitting the first sock when I got to the toe decreases and am set to turn the heel on the second sock. I am burning my skank candle at both ends ….. whaddya think? Care to place a bet or give me an idea of what yarn to get?

Also pictured is a finished New Year’s resolution ….. so nice to have an attainable goal. I vowed to organize pictures and notes of my knitting projects. Once that was done, I copied the file onto a disc for good measure. In going through all of my picture folders, what struck me was how many projects I never took a picture of. ~sigh~ The minute these socks are finished a picture will be taken!
