and now for a little poetry ….

A Plight of Light

There is a moth inside my room
Tapping at the light
With a very stubborn persistence
But without a hope in sight,

He throws himself against the glass
Not concerned with pain,
Just looking for the things he seeks
(I fear his efforts are in vain)

There’s no point in his actions
That I can clearly see,
But something must be in this light
Where he desperately wants to be

And the life slowly leaves his body
With every crash and throw,
The cruel florescence has captured his life
With its pernicious glow

So as you curl up on the pane
Losing the final fight,
Little moth, I give this gift to you and yours:
I”ll turn my light off tonight!

I take it that no one knows a damn thing about Flickr.  Everyone has an opinion about a penis in the mirror, but Flickr, not so much.  "

But Ann, we don’t know anything about Flickr!"  and I suppose you all hold doctorates on the matter of a mirror’s reflective qualities??

I am off to work this morning – another session of knitting classes!  Did you see that the Fall issue of Knitty is up?

no Vicki, that is not a boat on my front porch …..

Yesterday’s picture of the Tsubasa shrug was taken this past  weekend. Boar and I took a little day trip to Stony Brook Village.  The weather was glorious (still is!) and it was great to be motoring around in Onslow.  Daughter #2 was gadding about with her friends, so Boar and I were foot loose – practising for when we are truly empty nesters.

It is amazing that I have lived here on Long Island for the past 16 years and have not been to this village before – as a matter of fact, there are plenty of other places that I have failed to take in.  I will have to work on that and become a tourist in my own locale.

<insert frustrated blogging here>

***so, here’s the problem.  I was trying to be tricky and use flickr to display the pictures I took.  Not only would I amaze you all with my mad photography skillz, but I would wow you with my blog stylin’.  I have spent all of my allotted blog time trying to make it happen, but this bunny just won’t come out of the hat!  anyone have a thought on what is going wrong here?

are the leaves falling?

Daughter #1 is off at college.  Daughter #2 has her first day of school today.  It is time to get back to schedules – back to work.  Enough basking in the sun!

If you have read this site over the past few weeks, you might wonder if there is any knitting going on here.  It’s not all puppies and penises (penii?) all the time ….Knitting_005

without further ado, allow me to present a One Skein Wonder.  Over the past three weeks I have knit five of these babies.  Great pattern – great look.  I bought the yarn at AC Moore —- it is some kind of cashmerino knock-off.  With the daughters no longer under one roof, there is no sharing of the wardrobes – thus the frantic knitting of enough wonders to go around.  By the way, Daughter #2 usually has much better posture than this photo would suggest!

I am also in the midst of knitting a Tsubasa Shrug.   My dear, dear friend Claire snorted when she saw this pattern.  She actually snorted!  She thinks it will be highly unflattering.   I told her I am channeling my inner Stevie Nicks.  She has advised I avoid anything that uses the word butterfly.  Now, no matter how it looks I must wear it as a point of pride.  Here is it so far.

Still waiting to be finished:  BWA Halcyon and Backyard Leaves.  I am making a solemn vow, once the shrug is done, I will complete one of these projects before starting anything else!
