no sooner had I posted about disappointments yesterday than the mailman delivered a package!  Awhile ago, Kathleen had alerted me to an Ebay site with great prices on Addi-Turbos.  I was having none of it, being a big fan of my Denise set.  Then I gave Sue’s Addis a whirl.  (Sue is Kathleen’s mother and should have a blog and book deal of her own!)  I still love my Denise’s, but the tips on the Addis are fabulous.   So off I went a ordering. 

I am just finished the first sock in my Knitpick’s simple stripe sock yarn.  I want to give the Socks Soar on Two Circulars method a try, but don’t want to have any gauge issues between sock #1 and sock #2.  So the Addis will stay in their sleeves until the next pair of socks. 

Was I savvy enough to check the needle recommendation for the Black Water Abbey project?  no.

As for the blog contest of Monday — I am anxiously awaiting word that the package arrived.  Hopefully it will be today.  So far, no one has guessed correctly – I really thought Snowball might have figured it out.  ::hint, hint::

I present yesterday’s disappointments in chronological order:

I spent a lovely afternoon industriously organizing knitting patterns.  This industry was made possibly by Poe’s visit to the vet for his ‘fixin’ (by the way, he is doing well and will be home this afternoon).  It was a wonderful day until the mailman delivered this!  It is the MSWF catalog!  And I cannot go!! run soundtrack of wailing and gnashing of teeth  look at how thick this sucker is!

::sniff!::

Then, mother nature decided to decorate the set of my discontent .  Spring snow.  I think, maybe these are the two saddest words in the English language.

I drowned my sorrow by busting into the kid’s Easter candy and today must run to Target to buy more.

oh dear.

Our little Poe is getting ‘fixed’ today.  Poor baby!  Here is a recent picture of him — he is chewing on my bathrobe!  I am hoping that this ‘fixing’ will take a little wind out of his sails!  He has gotten much better than he was, but he is still a whirling dervish.  He will be back home tomorrow afternoon.  Poor little guy!

It is to be a rainy, dreary day.  Sounds like a good day to organize knitting patterns.  With Poe being gone for the day, it will be ideal.  I will be able to spread out all over the den without worrying about his marauding ways.  There is an antique map chest in the den.  Two of its drawers are filled with knitting magazines and patterns.  These drawers are one pattern away from being overstuffed.  I either need to :

1. quit collecting patterns (ha! I say.)
2. or find a better system!

I love collecting patterns, books and magazines as much if not more than collecting yarn!  The problem is, I have been mulling this one over and can’t come up with another, better system.  I think the first step will be to just organize and see what I’ve got – get all the hat patterns corralled and that type of thing …..

How many days have I been not smoking?  I quit on Friday.  On Thursday evening, the 18th of March at around 11:30 pm, I puffed my last cig.  It is now Wednesday.  How do you count that — do you start counting with Friday and end up with six days, or do you start with Saturday and end up with five days?  These simple things elude me …..  I realize I could skirt around the issue by saying I am on my sixth day of not smoking.  This counting concept has always confused me ….  Yay to Vicki (go over there, tell her what a great job she is doing!) and to Connie (a lady who needs a blog!) and to any other quitters out there!!

Guess the Pattern and Who It’s For!

I finished this suprise project last night and will be putting it in the mail today.

If anyone actually guesses both the pattern and who the lucky recipient is, I will send you a present too!  (don’t know what it is yet, but I will dig something up!) And Kathleen, I will buy you a consolation latte since I’ve already told you about this project!

As I wait for my order from Black Water Abbey to arrive, I cast on some Knitpicks sock yarn.  This is their Simple Stripes yarn in Snapdragon.  Seems appropriate for the equinox.

Onto smoking news.  I am pleased to report that there is no smoking news.  I am on my 4th day of not smoking.

Frankly I have been feeling somewhat manic — either very happy or very cranky.  I am hoping this is a normal experience and not some new personality emerging!  Today is looking like a happy day.  My body is feeling better already, my mind is the problem (so what else is new some of you wise guys may be asking yourselves!).  Except for the ugly, soft-boiled egg incident I have been good about keeping my crankiness to myself.  Although I will share this conversation I had with Daughter #2 last night:

• she said something about me quitting smoking
• me: I think I’ve been good about keeping my crankiness to myself
• she: (not all that convinced)   yeah, you have….
• me: what??  when have I been cranky to you?!
• she: you haven’t — you really have been good.  It’s just that when you’re cranky I can feel it seeping out of you …..

Apparently, I’m leaking.

I suppose I should step away from the computer and take advantage of my happy good feeling – you know, make hay while the sun is shining, face is smiling ….
