On the left is a not so great picture of my square. I have already sent the square off into the world, otherwise I would take another picture. This is handspun and navajo plyed and the stitch pattern is fishbone lace.

The picture on the right is the beginnings of Pomatomus socks. I cast on for these last night. I was going to knit a pair of Retro Rib, but after I got about two inches into those, I thought I would try something new. So the yarn came off the needles and was turned into this. Speaking of the yarn – I am using Wildfoote. I shall withhold my opinion until I have more of a knitted sample to judge. The problem is that during the knitting process, I like a thicker sock yarn, something along the lines of Socks that Rock or Cherry Tree Hill. It feels better in my hands and makes the knitting that much more enjoyable. For wearing purposes however, I often prefer my Trekking socks since they fit more comfortably inside my shoes. I am betting the Wildfoote will fall into this category. Such a conundrum!
Tomorrow I am traveling to the Poconos. I shall be hanging out with a group of friends from high school. Socks make the perfect traveling project. I hope this pattern will be ok for simultaneous knitting and visiting.

The daily pork report is coming to you from the foyer. The big brick wall in the foyer is in fact the back of the fireplace in the living room. I am posting two pictures since yesterday was skipped over and I know what a crushing disappointment that must have been for you both. ; )

Do you want me to start with the knitting part, or the part where other blogger’s sexy husbands are sending me presents?

Fine, but you chicks are twisted ….. yes, yes it’s true! I did order yarn for the facing hem! I decided to forgo the Colinette and instead ordered some Blue Sky Alpaca/Silk from KPixie in the color garnet. While I was at it, I also ordered some dyed cotton in circus peanut. oops! I believe I may have ordered the last of the circus peanut stock because the picture is no longer on their site – it’s a lovely pale orange/peach, exactly like those god awful Circus Peanut candy thingies. I want to try knitting a Baby Surprise jacket and think that cotton might be just the thing. While I am waiting for the order to arrive, I spent my knitting time yesterday working on finishing some long lingering projects. I like to do a little fiberly tidying up in between projects.

Now can I tell you about the sexy part?

Well, you know Nancy? Beside being one cool chick, did you know that Nancy surrounds herself with very sexy guys – and I ain’t talkin’ about her sons?! (although, those two are adorable; just on the young side) Rinaldo, ladies, Rinaldo! when I say his name, in my mind I roll my r’s and emphasize that o at the end. go ahead, you say it – isn’t that sexy? oooo, I just gave myself a little shiver. I first met Rinaldo at Rhinebeck a few years ago. I thought he was very cute. Then he and Nancy bought that house and Rinaldo strapped on a tool belt. Well, that sent me over the edge. First the sexy name, but now the tool belt?! I am a sucker for a guy in a tool belt.

***yes, I meant every pun and innuendo. ; )

Yesterday there was a package on my doorstep. The package seemed to be from Nancy, but then I read the note.

Did you read the part where Rinaldo said I needed it? ahem. need I say more? and did you notice that Nancy put that cute little winkie thing at the end, but you just know she doesn’t mean it?

I wonder if Rinaldo bought Nancy a crumb sweeper?thank you Nancy and Rinaldo!

I hope this doesn’t send Rusty, Kevin & Georgie into a tailspin ……

The sweater is almost finished! How close to the finish line am I? I have to knit the facing hems for the bottom, sleeves and the neckline. I am hunting for the perfect yarn for this job. I want something along the lines of a DK weight and Susan (Kathleen’s mom) suggested a cotton. Flair (the blogless wonder) found the perfect colorway in Colinette Giotto, but the gauge is too large.

While all of this has been marinating, I spun and knit a square for an upcoming project. Once the camera battery is juiced, I will post some pictures. Working on the square has driven home the reason why I embrace the credo Not A Square to Spare. It has less to do with guarding my knitting time and speaks more to the pressure of finding the perfect stitch pattern and making sure to knit within the stated dimensions. I knit and reknit this little square about five times before I finally settled on a pattern.

Thank you Thank you for your well wished on my quit smoking anniversary! I would be a liar if I said that I don’t miss smoking – I do! But those moments of longing are much fewer and further between and I am very very glad to have quit. When Vicki did the math calculating time spent smoking, it made my head spin! I used the nicotine patches during the first weeks of quitting – my MiL and Granny are using Chantix. This is a new treatment that is prescribed by your doctor. Both of these ladies have tried to quit in the past and say that Chatix is making a huge difference in their success this time around. I want Boar to talk to our Dr. about it.

Speaking of Boar, he has added to his long list of accomplishments and this latest one may just send you right over the edge……

he can fix a swift.

he made a tutorial about it for the blog.

stay tuned.
