I blame the phlegm.

Why oh why don’t I listen??  Will I never learn??  Where did you guys go wrong with me?

Despite every single one of you saying to hold off on fiber surgery until I felt better, I went ahead and did it.

The first two mis-crosses went beautifully.  And I was feeling very cocky all “look how good I am, oh my god am I good or what? I can hardly wait to blog this.”

I suppose I deserve everything that happened next, but to tell you the truth, I really don’t know what happened.  All hell broke loose.  Even reflecting on it now, I can’t figure out what went wrong – I thought I did everything the same way I did the first two, but clearly I did not.

I kept fiddling with it trying to make it work.  I mean I was so close.  So close.  But the fiddling was beginning to make it worse.  And after hours and hours, I decided to rip and reknit.

A more accurate statement might be ….. after hours and hours of trying things this way and that and subsequent impotent rage and frustration, Ann decided to not take a scissors to the whole f-ing mess and simply rip it out.

a linkfest

I have a head cold. I am feeling unwell and as soon as this entry is finished I will be making some chicken soup. for my soul.

Last night’s knitting revealed three mis-crossed cables on the front on Boar’s vest. Argh! And they are way back at the beginning. double argh!! Before my nasal passages seized up I anticipated a lovely blog post where the magic of fixing this would be revealed, almost like a Cirque du Soleil of fiber. Instead I will simply direct your attention to Cara’s tutorial and say that this is what I am going to do. Just imagine green yarn and three cables. I don’t know if I will do this today – only if my eyes uncross.

Speaking of Lil Camper …. let me take a moment to torture her a bit. Have you been over to The Shower blog lately? lots of great and wonderful things are happening over there. Go check it out and come back here to leave mysterious comments designed to drive her crazy. It will take her mind off her nausea and she will be grateful for the distractions. Really, it will be good for her.

Despite Christmas just being a week behind us, I am not so big a person to have any shame in saying that I want one of these. listen to the demo – you will love it. I only want The Sir version. And while I’m on the subject of my avarice, I would also like some of these. I bet if I had those I would never mis-cross a cable again.

I have a birthday at the end of this month. Mr. Boar has been informed of all of the above. I will also send him links to this post and further reminder notices.

Subtlety is wasted on Mr. Boar.

The Grandma Mabel Memorial Recipe Box Show & Tell Contest

Ann & Kay are having a contest!

My recipe box came from my mother’s house. Since counter space was at a premium, it used to sit on top of the fridge. My mother loved to collect things – antiques were high on her list followed by cookbooks and recipes. (I know, the apple didn’t fall far!)

At some point in the late 70’s, she got her hands on this two drawer portion of a library card catalog and moved all of her recipe cards from the more typical recipe box into this.

I am sharing one of my Grandmother’s recipes for Chocolate Chip Coffee Ring – it’s a keeper!

end of the year knitting

I’m seeing 2007 out with an FO.
woot!

This is the cabled newsboy cap from Stitch n Bitch Nation.

D#1 does not often request knitted items so when she said she would like this cap, I jumped right on it. I knit it in one day. It was an entire day of knitting where I did absolutely nothing else, stayed in the pj’s, had food delivered to my chair. Not a pretty sight, but still – one day!

Anyway, I love the pattern, and adore the yarn! seriously, I am in love with the yarn. It is the hand dyed worsted from Blue Sky – so soft and the colors are gorgeous! I am planning on making another one of these for D#2. I will be knitting her a brown one as well – the pattern calls for two skeins and in fact it took just over one, so I am trying to be economical and use up all my leftover yarn.

Another year has come and gone and we are all left wondering where the time went. It certainly passes too quickly, but I suppose that’s better than the alternative ;) I wish you all a very happy New Year!
