Granny

Willow blocks for my Larger than Life Bag. I am suddenly hooked on crochet! Way back when in the mists of time, I learned how to knit before crochet. However, I actually crocheted projects first. It has been years since I crocheted anything – the last project was a granny square afghan when my Big Bro headed off to college (Lehigh, so I made him a chocolate brown and white blanket). Margene and Vicki re-ignited my love of all things Granny with their Larger than Life bags and I knew I had to make one. And I’ve already got my sights set on that Babette blanket……

I made a trip to Granny’s (another Granny I love!) on Friday and met up with Kathleen who patiently helped me make yarn and color decisions. After lots of dancing around the shop with armloads of yarn, I decided on Plymouth Encore – it’s economical, washable and offers lots of colors. I have been happily churning out squares since then. And in the highest of compliments both daughters said they would like granny square afghans for themselves.

speaking of daughters …. D#1 was dropped off at JFK last night. The flight was headed to Frankfurt with a layover and should be landing in Athens as I type this. Now that it has begun I am feeling much calmer – I think the anticipation was killing me more than the actual event.

Cara gave me these piggy knitting needles. She found them on Etsy – aren’t they fabulous?

There has been a flurry of activity here. D#1 arrived home on Saturday night. It is hard to believe that her sophomore year of college is behind her. She leaves this evening for a 16 day trip to Greece and Bulgaria! She is in her school’s chamber choir and the group is traveling and performing. There has been much unpacking. laundry and repacking. I am thrilled for her, but also a bit nervous. and yes, for those of you who knew me when – now I know how my own mother felt when I spent 6 months in Germany! D#1 is beyond excited and raring to go. As means of comfort she keeps reminding me that she’s practically 20 …… hmmmm, does that make me feel better or worse?

let’s divert my attention, shall we? that pig pitcher is among the first things in my collection. It is an early piece of Nicholas Mosse pottery. There used to be a matching bowl, but that hit the floor years ago.

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I am pleased to report that we did not have a repeat of last year’s Scampi Shame. I was treated to a dinner out and a spa gift certificate!

These guys were among my first Ebay purchases. They are Japanese and my only regret is not bidding higher on other items that lady was auctioning. I seem to remember some mugs and maybe a bigger pitcher.

Anyway, the taller one is supposed to be a coffee pot. Shortly after winning and receiving these, I filled him up with some after-dinner coffee. I like to use my things and was also trying to impress upon Boar that new pig pitchers were useful and Ebay was good. (Let me take this moment to confess that now and again I exhibit a simplemindedness that is astonishing. I like to think of myself and a smart person. A clever person. These moments shatter such illusions. Remember this one?) So there I am being all wifey, wifey serving up the coffee in my new pig pitcher. It is a bit smaller than I thought it would be but if I filled it to the top I should have enough room in there for two mugs.

fill it to the top. key phrase right there.

I could not believe when the coffee started pouring out of that thing’s mouth.

I am plotting a little road trip to Granny’s today. I want to buy yarn to make that crocheted granny square bag that Vicki and Margene are taunting me with.

This has nothing to do with me being bored of moss stitch. I think I am more bored with the lopi. ; )

Ann on Why Blog Reading is Bad for You and can Lead to Fever & Chills …..

Fever symptoms:

somehow, somewhere I followed a link from someone’s blog to 101 Cookbooks. I read the recipe for frozen yogurt and her love for her Krups ice cream maker. In that moment, I became convinced that I too needed a Krups ice cream maker. right now.

A quick internet searched led me to the conclusion that people LOVE their Krups La Glaciere ice cream makers. And to the other conclusion that Krups is no longer making that model. ah, the agony!

I was almost heartbroken until I discovered this Cuisinart ice cream maker on sale at Williams Sonoma. Actually the price isn’t all that stellar, but that extra bowl tie in is irresistible. A quick call to my local Williams Somona store confirmed that they had them in stock. And wasn’t it convenient that I had to run to the mall anyway??

Cuisinart
so let’s see, I read about them at 8:00 am and owned one by 11:30.
this is the chills part

I made that frozen yogurt recipe at 101 Cookbooks last night. I used greek style yogurt as they recommend. It was fantastic.

Today’s pig is one that I made with my own two hands. Many moons ago I took a pottery class and made this guy.
