This past weekend, I went with my friends Mary and Tina to Sea Isle, NJ. Tina has a vacation home there. We have been friends since the age of 10 and it is easy to pick right up whenever we get together. We had a great time – gabbing, knitting and spinning. I brought my wheel with me – Mary is a knitter who now wants a spinning wheel and she in turn taught Tina to knit — so the weekend netted two converts for the flock! While there, these babies came off the needles:

and were immediately pressed into service for a walk on the boardwalk! If you remember, I had run out of yarn and ended up finishing with Koigu. I think I picked a good color match. The Koigu is a bit thinner than the StR, but all in all a good yarn to use for this emergency.

Mary also finished up a sock or two this weekend and a big, big shout out to FA in PA who has been working hard on her second pair of socks!! I treated each of them to a skank of Trekking as way of welcome to the addiction of sock knitting. Let’s hear it for the ladies!

on the left a feather and fan shawl/scarf thingamagig. I bought this yarn two years ago at Rhinebeck and it is about time I used it. The right is a progress picture of my Brook’s Farm Four Play starring in the Chinese Sweater pattern……

and now I must trot along —- the phone won’t stop ringing!

it has not been easy to be one of my pets these past few months. In the fall, we had to put our Shih Tzu Mo to sleep. Next our dog Daisy was diagnosed with a heart condition, which we monitor daily. And today, our cat Holly passed away. As recently as the beginning of the year, she had been the picture of feline health. The past two weeks were a different story however. She was critically ill and after doing some tests, the vet thought that she most likely had cancer of her spleen. The only consolation is that she died while being petted.

let me first say that this is an abbreviated post since I have spent most of my blogging time being frustrated by Typepad. Yesterday I thought I was losing my mind somewhat when I saw my post – I was certain I had added a little sentence or two about it being my birthday and that was the reason for the picture of the fancy pig in pearls. When it didn’t show up on the screen, I figured I had done something wrong. Now this morning, my photos are being eaten. I have been trying to post these all as pop-ups, but it seems that Typepad feels these would be better as embedded images. Who am I to argue?? maybe I should seriously consider whatever our friend Snow has switched to…..

So here are pictures of my birthday presents. I was a very spoiled birthday girl who’s friends went way overboard! On the left is a package that arrived from Cara! yes, it’s true – presents from Cara as I live and breathe!! this is a piggy sampler pack – those square stacking barnyard creatures actually serenade you with a variety of songs! On the right are felted clogs from Kathleen – she stopped by Granny’s yesterday to drop them off and I wore them for the rest of the day. They are so comfy and cozy! gotta love the job where it is okay to wear slippers! and yes, for all of you who predicted that this job would end up costing me money … you were right, I am in the hole for $36 so far!

you would think that with this kind of fanfare that I had turned some significant number ….. but no, I am 43, which is a very good age to be, but nothing to start tossing the confetti over …… I think I am simply spoiled and that is all there is to it.

unless they all caught wind of this bullshit and felt bad for me …..
