Things have been hectic around here. Thursday was D#2’s last final – it was also her last Regent. TGTO (thank God that’s over). Friday she attended her boyfriend’s senior prom, so there was a flurry of activity getting ready for that. But hard work pays off – look how cute she is!

I was invited to sing Happy Birthday to my favorite Bronx Girl on Saturday afternoon! Her birthday is Wednesday, go on over there and tell her she looks fantastic for her age. Kathleen and I hopped in Onslow headed to the Bronx and feasted on Maribel’s excellent cooking. OMG can that girl cook. She is a cooking wonder – it was all in Spanish, so I cannot even begin to tell you what she made. Lots of it was fried and really, that’s all that needs to be said. Yum! I also got to meet Chante, Risa and Tisha. Yes, meeting them was almost as good as Maribel’s cooking. Although none of them are fried. It was a great time and besides the feasting there was plenty of fiber play.

From that party, I headed straight to another party! Flair (the blogless wonder) was celebrating her daughter’s high school graduation. And that was another fantastic time with more delicious food. Do you get the sense that I don’t need to eat for an entire week after this past weekend?

On the knitting front I shall just say the moss stitch continues. My next project is The Babette blanket for which I have received fabulous yarn, colorful yarn, glorious colorful yarn. Yet I abstain. I cannot start that project until the Hex is lifted.

This guy is center stage above my stovetop. I found him in an antique shop in Cape May, NJ many moons ago. Any guesses what he is? I will put the answer in the “continue reading” section.

It’s rainy and slightly chilly here today – the perfect day for knitting! and also the perfect day for soup – I am going to give this recipe a try.

Are you wondering how D#2 did on that test yesterday? She thinks she did ‘okay’. A quick D#2 translation of ‘okay’ means she thinks she got a B. For me, a B in math would have been cause for celebration – parades, banners, you name it, bring on the confetti! She has a reprieve until next week when her last two exams are scheduled. Of course that’s what I think she has – which as proven yesterday is open to debate. First thing on D#2’s to-do list will be to check her exam schedule!

I suppose I should turn the computer off now. That freakin’ moss stitch isn’t going to knit itself!

Do you want the part where I did more moss stitch or the part where I am a terrible mother? like I even have to ask!

It is exam week at our high school. Students go to the school only during the exam time and the school send home a letter detailing everything that is going on (ie exam times, locker clean out). Did you know that the first way I am a terrible mother is that I don’t know any of their teachers’ names? nor do I even exactly know what classes they are taking?

So this letter comes home and I ask D#2 what classes she has. Then I write on our calendar when she needs to be at the school. She looks this all over.

Did I also mention that D#2 is completely type A when it comes to her school work? I wish she would apply some of that energy to putting her laundry away, but she saves it all for her school work. She freaks out my friends and hers with the amount she studies. She is in the 11th grade but has been taking a 12th grade honors math. This test has her particularly freaked out. She tells me yesterday that they can’t use their calculators for part of it. Trying to calm her nerves I remark that the test must not be as long since they need to allow time for all of that computation. She says no, that they have doubled the time of the test.

It didn’t exactly hit me, but it must have lodged in my subconscious somewhere because at 9:45 I think to myself I should really double check that exam schedule. I have written down that her test is from 12 to 2. Sure enough that is the SECOND HALF. The first half starts at 10!!

She is still in bed, I haven’t had my coffee yet and now we are both freaking out! It’s amazing how fast we can both move.

I am glad to report she got there in time. I hope she settles down enough to take this f-ing test.

remember this? there is something of a tradition with exams and drama it would seem!

Sorry for the absence – there has been no knitting around here lately. Every now and then I managed a row or two on the Hex Coat, but nothing much more than that.

D#1 arrived home from her overseas adventure on Wednesday evening. There was a bit of drama surrounding her arrival that had nothing to do with her, but everything to do with her goofball friends. It led to my downing two vodka tonics later that night. I would love to tell you the details because it is all very funny, but alas with a gigantic readship such as mine, one must be aware of privacy issues. Suffice to say that 21 year old boys/men are slightly moronic. Funny how I never noticed when I was that age. D#1 had a fabulous time – has over 600 pictures to share (we are about ½ through). She is mostly home now for the summer, with a few road trips thrown in for good measure and is off to work this morning. It is so good to have her home!

D#2 is taking the SAT’s this morning. poor thing is a bundle of nerves. Within the next two weeks, she has the SAT’s, the ACT’s, AP exams and finals. Keep fingers crossed for her please!

Mr. Boar is taking the upcoming week off. We have big plans to crank out some more Adirondack chairs and will hopefully also tackle some other house projects. I promise to take many pictures.
