Fun Things to do this Weekend!

a short and sweet reminder – tomorrow is Spin Out!  come on out and spend some time spinning (or learning to, or knitting, or gabbing).  The weather will be fine and it will be a glorious day!  Cara out did herself last year and this year will be even better!

Sunday is Greenlawn’s annual Pickle Festival !!  who doesn’t love pickles?  pucker up!

the move

I spent most of yesterday tinkering around with WordPress. I managed to import my entries from Typepad. I have been keeping this blog since 2003 and did not realize just how many entries that would be. So I also spent a good deal of time categorizing the uncategorized (which is not necessary, just something I would like to have), only 1545 more to go!

When Mr. Boar got home he helped to re-map my domain name. Actually he did the re-mapping while I looked helpfully over his shoulder giving him good tips which I know he appreciated. He likes it when I do that while he’s driving too. Seriously though, even though I type in purlingswine.com, the wordpress part still shows up so I think maybe some more re-mapping is on the horizon. But the important thing is that it gets you here.

Today I am off to a dentist appointment and then work at Granny’s. A reminder for all you Long Island knitters and fiber lovers — this is the last week for Granny’s sale, get ’em while they’re hot!

Sadly, or no?, today marks the last of the official Year of the Pig pictures. I know and many of you know that I have loads more pigs. But those things are either in the back of cupboards or packed away in boxes. I am sure more pig pictures will pop up on this site from time to time. We are leaving off with my pig Martin who sits out front by our driveway lantern. He is a full sized porcine replica and I am sure the neighbors love it! (actually I had a garage sale a few years ago where lots of people said how much they like him).

  • first and foremost – it is hot and humid and I am a cranky bitch.
  • I am working on a secret project and can only post about it on Ravelry. I will put a more recent picture up there tomorrow.
  • I have been busy panicking and scheduling last minute college tours and interviews for D#2. Considering that every single weekend in October is booked for us, this has been a daunting task.
  • I don’t know how to break the news to you, but Onslow has been going into Brooklyn everyday with Boar. I am worried that Onslow and I have broken up. We have had a car shift around here (see next listed item) and Boar loves driving Onslow. I also love driving Onlsow, but I also love just driving and not having to do all that stick shifting. Onlsow is a high maintenance guy. Sometimes it just lovely to sit in a cushy four door sedan and glide to your destination without being all cute and vroom-vroom about it. I only hope that you all can accept me for me. btw …. this is not a permanent car shift – Boar and I are playing it week by week. I think I need to remind Boar about that.
  • I have also been busy panicking and feeling sick to my stomach because D#2 passed her driver’s test yesterday (yay!) and is now driving herself around Long Island which as everyone knows is chock full of aggressive boorish drivers. (boo!)

now here’s a cranky bitch pig picture posting. I put this guy away in the shed when I thought things were getting cooler around here and I would start a fall cleanup.

Have you visited Vicki lately? Would you like to be a part of a very cool, very top secret baby shower blogging opportunity? Come on and stop by – we are all over there drinking champagne punch and munching on Jordan almonds!

Fall has officially begun – today is the first day of school. D#2 left this morning for her senior year! Shall I wax poetic about how quickly the time goes, or how I remember all of the other first days of school? Or shall I just get on with things and show you some knitting? and pigs!

Ta-Da! A pair of finished Roza’s Socks and a pair in progress!

The finished set is done in Cherry Tree Hill and for the other I am using Trekking XXL. I love both of these sock yarns and the Trekking seems thicker than I remember it being. Have they changed something at the mill or has is just been too long since I’ve used it? The CTH pair seem a bit snug. The brioche stitch of this pattern makes the ribbing extra grabby – this is great because I love socks to hug the leg. But my calves need a ‘hug extender’ – I’ve got strong peasant stock in my genes! It will take a strong wind to knock me over, but a few more stitches to get around these gams. For the Trekking pair I added a pattern repeat – instead of casting on 60 stitches cast on 66. I will have to find some skinny-legged someone on my Christmas list and wrap up the Cherry Tree Hill pair!
