Today really is someone’s birthday ……

Mr. Boar! isn’t he cute?

Mr. Boar is a great guy. He lives in a house full of women – he puts up with a lot. : )

Here is a great fiber story about Boar.

Not long ago, we were taking a road trip to see D#1 in college. This is a six hour drive at best and Mr. Boar had already put in a full day’s work. And I mean full – he gets up everyday at 4:00 am. The plan was that he would get a ride to work and I would pick him up at the end of the day and we would hit the road. When I got there I said that I will drive since he must be exhausted. He said no, he will drive and then I can knit. I tell him I don’t mind driving, that he must be tired.

And then he says, well if you drive, who will do the knitting?

see? he finds it as compelling as I do!

Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas

That’s right, the time for celebration has arrived early here at Chez Swine. Christmas isn’t for a month or so and my birthday doesn’t arrive until January, but that doesn’t mean I can’t get presents!

My bff Mary sent me a combo bday/christmas gift and it arrived yesterday. Much sooner than she anticipated actually. That’s okay, it only makes it all the more surprising!

And you my dears will not believe your eyes. Mary was guided by a good friend of hers who is a spinner/weaver. She asked this sage women what would be an outrageous thing to get for a fellow spinner and this is what she said …..

yeah, baby! that’s right – two ounces of Qiviut! I just about plotzed.

Mary ordered this from the University of Alaska Fairbanks Large Animal Research Station. It is raw fiber with some guard hairs mixed in, so I will be taking this along to my next guild meeting to see what the spinners recommend.

This weekend had a little bit of everything …..

wind
rain
yardwork
a fabulous Halloween party where I got to meet Ginny. Although we had first met at Rhinebeck, this time we got to sit around and chat. She’s so cool that I will ignore our age difference. I will pretend that she’s my age, or I’m her age, or whatever. I just hope that when the daughters meet her, she doesn’t want to hang with them instead…… although D#2 does knit, so there’s always that risk ……
movies – I watched Grey Gardens with Flair last night. I had seen this movies before, but not the entire thing. Holy Cow. Watching Little Edie rock a sweater wrapped around her head for 2 hours was …. something else.
knitting! chugging away on the Kimono Shawl and The End is in sight. Thank God, because I am madly, truly, deeply sick of this project.

And now I am off to work. I shall leave you all with this quiz and a reminder that Cheese is Never Boring. Sometimes it’s the most interesting thing on the table …….
