I’ve got nothing for the blog today – but two days away seemed too much. I have been knitting away on dishcloths (quit smirking!) and painting the Adirondack chairs. They are waiting for a second coat. And I have also been cooking – trying out a new recipe.

Did I mention that D#2 got her learner’s permit? That she has already been driving Onslow? Yes, my two babies! But mostly she has been using our Subaru with its automatic transmission. And the news from D#1 is also very exciting – she tried out for and made a special chamber choir. As a part of the curriculum, they travel to Bulgaria and Greece for 16 days in May! gulp.

happy knitting darlings – I shall leave you with an oldie, but a goodie ….

My laptop had a seizure and I lost my whole entry. I hate when that happens.

Here are the highlights:

  • cake I made for the 4th. Searching for this link is what put my laptop over the edge. If you’re interested, you can get the link yourself. It’s Ina Garten’s Flag Cake and was featured in a Martha Stewart Magazine at some point. It is delicious.

  • I have finished my Flower Basket Shawl and it is blocking. Surprisingly, I only used ½ a skein of the Schaeffer. I know I used exactly ½ because I weighed it. So did I frig it up completely, or did I truly only use 280 yds. It looks okay …… and more importantly, what to make with the leftovers? hmmm…..
  • I hit the 20 pound mark at my last WW weigh in. And though things have been downhill this week due to the presence of leftover flag cake, it is still time to name the mantra winner! Nancy our favorite foul mouthed Bronx Girl!

While I may want the cookie, I don’t need the cookie, fuck the
cookie…

  • This is what I am sending her

a Yarntainer that I found at Target!

  • and the last thing …..

you can have too much Flag Cake with Cream Cheese icing but
can you ever have too much Pug?

Darlings, I am alive & well. I did not bleed to death. I may have exaggerated that part a smidge. However, as I was telling Norma, I think this bit about only bleeding a thimbleful is a bunch of bullshit. It’s somewhere between bleeding to death and thimbles.

As predicted, I was up ½ pound at WW weigh in last night. Which thankfully wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be. I have a great core recipe on the stove, so this week is off to a good start!

I had my knitting/spinning posse over yesterday for a get together. They got me going on a vest for Boar using my handspun. I am even going to write the pattern myself! That’s a bit scary. I just want a pullover v-neck, which seems straightforward. But there are lots of numbers involved and that’s the scary part. Fortunately, while Boar might not know about what to cook on Mother’s Day he is a mathematical whiz kid and I can ask him to help with that part.

hope you all have a great Wednesday!

Now ladies, put down those can openers!

I have been given the ole Hong Kong Phooey over at Cara’s. She says I am the Hoover Dam of creativity and that she can eat Spaghetti O’s if she wants to. (and it looks like Vicki thinks they’re pretty tasty too). I will admit to the whole creativity damper thing and agree that Cara can and should knit whatever she wants to. But I will NOT GIVE ONE INCH on the Spaghetti O’s debate. Once you are on that culinary road to Perdition, you should just crack open a can of Spam and get it over with. yeah, I said it.

In further food talk my peeps, I have some sad news for you all. There is 6½ pounds less of me to love! Last night was my first week WW weigh in. The first week is always so motivating – all that water weight gone. I am planning on posting my weekly progress or lack thereof, in an effort to keep this ball a rollin’, this swine a losin’. It worked with the quit smoking and hopefully will have the same result with the chub.

Can you tell I have no knitting news to share? I should be finished with the second Oak Ribbed Sock today and have some pictures for tomorrow. And tonight is my spinning guild meeting – tomorrow should be chock full o fiber!
